Mr. Dominic Chow was born in the year of 1961. He picked up his first instrument- guitar at the age of 9 and the piano at the age of 12. He later became the Music Director of Asia Television Hong Kong when he was barely 21. Over the past decades, he shuttled through all kinds of styles including Electronics, Pop, Rock, Jazz and Classical music while playing the multi-roles of a devoted musician, a gifted pianist and a beloved music tutor. His wide exposure made him a revolutionary pianist, composer, and conductor in the music history of Hong Kong.
In his early years, Mr. Chow received classical music education, and soon his talent in music was recognized. However, the path of pursuing popular music was chosen instead of becoming a classical pianist. By late 1970's, Mr. Chow, then 21, has become one of the award-winnig frequenters in the music history of HK. Over the years he has composed more than 300 pop tunes and was well known for conducting orchestras for super stars' live performances. He has also composed advertising jingles and participated in film scoring works. In 1989, his work was nominated for the "Best Movie Theme Song Award" by the Golden Horse Academy Award(Taiwan).
Since 1990, Mr. Chow has begun to move from the popular music scene and worked maturely towards the Jazz music scene. In 1994, Mr. Chow performed with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra again. Shortly after these few encounters with Chinese musicians, Mr. Chow was invited by famous Erhu master Wong On Yuen to team up with him and play five concerts for the Hong Kong Arts Festival. Since then, more and more performances queued up for him. In 1998, four Jazz workshops were organized in town halls over four different regions of Hong Kong. However, educating more music lovers remains the dream of this devoted musician.
Finally in 1999, Mr. Chow opened an institute under his name - "Dominic Music Institute". The institute provides comprehensive music education programmes - consisting not only of classical music but also the music of our time including computer music, Pop, Rock'N'Roll, and Jazz . They have been much welcome by a vast number of music lovers spanning over a wide range of age.
Perhaps, it is his ambition and perception that make Dominic Chow a revolutionary musician of all time.
