I couldn’t be prouder as a Malaysian knowing that the Negaraku was played at the 7th stage of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2020 yesterday!
Mohd Harrif Saleh, fondly known as ‘Mamat’ brought joy to Malaysians as he rose to the podium carrying our beloved Jalur Gemilang.
It was no ordinary feat - he cycled an arduous 130.4 km from Bagan to Menara Alor Setar, competing against 300 riders.
As an amateur cyclist, I have a profound respect for professional riders. The athletism, drive and perseverance needed to compete in races are tremendous!
Harrif has placed himself alongside illustrious cyclists such as Datuk Ng Joo Ngan, Daud Ibrahim, Rosman Alwi and Mohd. Azizulhasni.
His victory is a testimony that Malaysia can excel in cycling.
Quick historical fact: Malaysia won its first medal with Jaafar Bibun in the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Harrif is doing us proud by continuing this tradition.
No thanks can ever be enough for the amazing work that our athletes do but I hope this will be a start to many other victories. Your victory is as an inspiration to all Malaysians, especially young aspiring athletes in Malaysia.
