Dear Ariel, you turn six today and we made your wish come true by celebrating your special day at the Bird Park.
You were so excited to feed the flamingoes and when we said you couldn't do it a second time since each cup of pellets cost $2, you picked up those which were dropped by others and gathered them to feed the birds once more.
This was followed by more feeding frenzy where you put on a rubber glove and fed bloody fish to the pelicans, sugar water to the lories and even live mealworms to starlings, parrots and peahens.
Yup, it took you a while to overcome your fear of the wriggly worms but you amazed me by not giving up and soon managed to take them up one by one to feed to the birds - which by the way is much braver than Mama already.
This is you.
The gutsy, bubbly, merry, can be cheeky and even mischievious at times, yet always my endearing baby girl.
You came into my world six years ago after a loss and I wished so badly for you to come out safe and healthy. I will always remember your chubby cheeks, your big eyes, how you came out at exactly the same time as your sister, how grateful I was, and still am, to have you in my arms and how I couldn't stop staring at your beautiful little face when it was just you and me at night.
Just a couple of days ago, you said "I am a big sister. And I am also a little sister. Because I have a Jiejie and a Didi." I've always been so concerned if you, being the middle child, would feel left out, neglected, inferior or that we don't dote on you at times. I can see how it is really tough for you to be sandwiched in the centre and feel not quite here nor there at times. Thankfully, when I asked if you like it, you said "Yes Mama, I LOVE being in the middle." I truly hope you will remain positive, be kind to others and always see the good in life.
Regardless of how things might seem a little unfair at times, always remember that Papa and Mama love you all the same and you, my baby girl, you will always have a special place in our hearts. Happy birthday, my dear Ariel. 🎂
