Azmi and I went through extensive research to find the best rented vehicle that best fit our requirements and easy on the pocket for our US Roadtrip.
Unfortunately, this "deal" was a killjoy when we were told we MUST pay almost an addictional of USD 2000 extra for the insurance!
That's almost RM8000 over! A LOT of money for us. Definitely a burst to our budget.
So since it was their policy before they could release our car, we obliged.
After a 13 hour flight with a very cranky baby, a sick 6 year-old and a tired 10 year-old, the last thing I needed was to go online researching for the best rented car deal that can accommodate all 7 of us and 5 suitcases at the 11th hour.
Even my normally chirpy mum and eldest son were exhausted from our 2 day journey.
My extremely frugal husband gave in but upon reaching our motel, he went thru all the terms and condition and found out the insurance bit was optional.
Sure. Insurance has its pros. But it's clearly stated in BOLD that it was an optional cost. So to be told it was by law and a requirement for us to pay for it, was unsettling. Found out online that there were other similar complaints about this.
Anyone else had similar problems and what did you do?

Got into LAX, after a 13 hr flight and fetched the car from Dollar Rent A Car, and BAMMM!! They forced you to buy LDW and LIS insurance, because the Dollar sales agent said it was state law and they will refuse to rent you a car.
I had mah bediful wife Daphne Iking ,mum and 4 kids all crying for food, I had no choice but just sign on the dotted line! the bill came to 2 and half times higher than what i ordered!
But after reading their terms and conditions on their website page, it appears it just OPTIONAL https://www.dollar.com/AboutUs/GeneralPolicies.aspx and it appears many people have been conned into buying it http://www.elliott.org/…/are-car-rental-companies-forcing-…/
