It is summer. It is the time where I usually get sunburned.
Cycling outdoor with friends and summer travels has been a widely missed ritual as it reminds me of my travel to Kenya during the summer a few years ago.
Like the wildlife that migrates to survive, in search of food and better conditions, I feel like we are ready to fight for a better life by getting out of our seats. Sadly, we were told to stay where we are, to be still and stagnant.
In this time of staying still, I watched a lot of movies/series, I read, and I worked at home. I tried new things, I attended lectures online and I worked out. I did social media detoxing, I shopped online, and I painted. Like everyone else, I spent the time doing all kinds of things that I probably would not have done if it were not for the lockdown.
Time keeps passing by. We have survived for more than a year and it feels like forever. This pandemic has hit us real hard, and we might be feeling that we are in the worst now, and every hope of it getting better seems to be crushed by a larger number of cases. However, I promised myself that I will not to be discouraged so easily even during this great challenge.
Not long ago, I found a beautiful purple flower growing silently between the payvers of my backyard. Even in the midst of the heavy rain, it stood gracefully, not giving in to the pressure it was facing. It made me reflect on how impatient I was that I couldn’t stay still even for a moment under pressure.
Perhaps this is the lesson that I must learn during this time of lockdown. I am sure we have learned many more lessons, although we may not have fully realized yet.
So, let’s not lose hope and stay strong Malaysia! 🤜🏼
