🔎STAGE 1: Preparation of Portfolio, CV
Your CV must capture your employer’s attention to learn about you and what you can offer to them immediately and effectively. This would allow your potential employer to identify and consider your application out of the hundreds of other entries they have received.
🔺Part 1 - 6 key points a landscape architect should consider in their CV
1️⃣ Creating a memorable CV.
An employer spends an average of 10 seconds browsing through each CV. Make your CV easy to read, concise and logically structured with a clear layout.
Remember to emphasize and highlight specific skills and key values that show that you are not only suitable for the job but would also be a good fit to the company.
Keep in mind that your ultimate goal is to capture your employer’s attention, remember your strengths and convince them to hire you.
2️⃣ A Designer’s Aesthetics.
The first steps of becoming a designer is to develop a sense of style and character in your works. It is crucial that your CV and Portfolio both echo the same key theme and message. This would help establish an identity that would make your application much more memorable.
3️⃣ What can you offer other than academic experience?
Landscape architecture is a multidisciplinary profession that revolves heavily around teamwork. Mentioning soft skills and personal qualities such as being an adaptable team-player who can also work independently or even lead a team would be strengths that set you apart from other applicants.
4️⃣ With change brings new opportunities.
For students who have a gap year in their academic studies, think about how you can include this additional experience to your advantage.
For career switchers, you can consider sharing how your previous experiences have sculpted your design journey, your joy and curiosity of learning different subjects and how you finally found interest within the realm of landscape architecture.
5️⃣ Making the Most of Your University’s Resources.
Every university would have a career service department which provides CV templates or hold lectures/workshops that give guidance in writing your CV, checking and reviewing it.
Reaching out to experienced graduates and peers for their advice regarding overseas job applications would also help reduce the amount of time and effort spent on unnecessary work and improve success rates.
6️⃣ Prepare early and update frequently.
A CV would normally require you to include 2 letter of recommendations (Referees). It is recommended that you plan ahead and prepare your CV and Portfolio as early as possible for review.
At the same time, approach professors/advisors who know you well, ask for their permission and request them to be your referee – It is time-consuming to write and they might have multiple request as well, give buffer time! Meanwhile, remember to update your CV regularly.

I attended Child law lectures to understand the plight of children and what was being done legally about it in Malaysia better with Tuan Syed Azmi.
One of the things we learnt was about Restorative Justice. Coincidently, I was just reading the book this afternoon to refresh my mind on the notes taken.
Please read Azmi’s take on this.
I knew he was back for sure at around 3 years ago.
One of the thing that i have to accept is that he is back.
I have requested MCMC to use his skills to find other similar interest like him, but my request was denied. I accept.
Now it really depend on which perspectives are we going to see him.
As a child advocate, of course i am afraid of him to be able to be close to any children.
I am sure his name is in eDKK e-daftar Kanak-kanak, sex offenders list. Now even the government let any employer to check at JKM of anyone who works with children to be screen this way for free.
What is clear-
He cannot be around children.
He cannot have access to children image material on line- how can we stop that even.
He cannot interact with children online- even through games.
I am afraid. But i know that i don't hate him as a person, i hate his actions.
Then i took child law. I take this seriously.
The law that i am learning taught me about protecting victims and bringing justice.
In my experience of protecting children. Most children wish not to be hurt, the actions to stop. Even when i write this, the actions although from pornographic material to grooming to sexual assault and rape are different in nature, we cannot deny the hurt and trauma to every child is different too.
I am not saying having child porn is considered mild, no no no. If it hurts a child, you cannot out a degree to that.
But during law, i also learn about Restorative Justice. It is not about to forgive or forget but more to restore back the individual so that he could be part of the society again and the victims participation is important for the perpetrator to understand and take responsibility of his mistakes.
It is not for all crimes and takes careful research.
Clearly it sounds like Second Chance.
But reading comments, i sense Malaysians are not ready to accept him back.
But do they want him to die?
And lets say victims have the choice to castrated him, will that be the closure needed?
Then i wonder can we wirk back on restorative justice.
Maybe not for his case.
I have a huge respect for children who are abuse because of what they have been through and we never talked about to forgive the perpetrator because that right is only to the victim and at their own time.
My role, the act of abuse must stop.
Back to our Math Genius.
What about his right?
Or do we believe he has no right?
Honestly for how many years pun, i hope he could never work with children or be near one. If he abide to that at least i know he tries.
I don't have the liberty to know what is our countrys ability to monitor his online activity so i cannot comment on that.
Yes people or parents have the right to prevent him to be around the area etc i agree.
But to voice out to say "He Will Hurt Your Kids" out loud and to invoke scare in public has a better method than scare tactics. Seriously.
Might as well hang a scarlet letter around his neck eh?
Trust me, even with that i dont think society will be ok. Clearly they want to see someone die.
Is that what you want to do go ahead your way. I cannot condone that.
I rather we focus more lobbying for children in Malaysia to be protected.
But noo, people love punitive actions to others because it feels good, satisfied, safe?
If i can pledge i would say lets focus back to Childs Right, Children's safety and better treatment to children.
To the said person: i am not letting you off the hook, but respect my boundaries not to be near a child. Online or offline.
Just my opinion.
