✌ Breadwinner (n): the person who supports others with their income = main income earner.
Eg: Traditionally, men are often considered as breadwinners whilst it is in women’s nature to take care of the whole family.
✌ Maternity leave (n): the period when women are off work because they are pregnant
Eg: Working women are entitled to take maternity leave during and after the pregnancy.
✌ Paternity leave: time that the father of the baby is allowed to have away from work
Eg: Taking paid paternity leave is necessary as husbands can stay at home and support their wives.
✌ Egalitarian (adj): based on the belief that everyone should have equal rights and opportunities
Eg: In an egalitarian society, it is expected that both men and women be treated equally.
✌ Gender equality (n): the fact of being equal and not being discriminated against based on their gender.
✌ Empower (v): to give somebody more control over their own life or situation they are in
Eg: This movement has actively empowered women and encouraged their participation in leadership
✌ Stereotype (n): a fixed idea or image that many people have of a particular type of person or thing, but which is often not true in reality
Eg: Sexual stereotype still exists in the workplace
✌ Stereotypical (adj):
Eg: Traditionally, female stereotypical role is to marry, have children and take care of household while male’s responsibility is often portrayed as the breadwinner.
