Rice is sacred to us. One of the greatest ancestor of the Kelabit people, Aruring Menepo Boong, is the representation of a woman of highest spiritual power, obtained through the knowledge of rice planting and harvesting, and serving the rice to the village and guests. My Kelabit name was inherited from my grandmother, "Lipang", meaning "rice husk". Our music video & song "Re Lekuah" is largely about the hardships of planting and harvesting rice. (It's the first Music Video in Kelabit language)
This Gawai/ harvest season, don't forget to think of our ancestors and families who worked the land by the cycles of the moon, to give us the best rice there is. This is a season of thanksgiving <3 My heart is with you Borneo!
