Recently, I have gotten quite a few emails asking if I do private tutoring. Some have asked if I have a bushiban or run the page with a team. While our readers know we publish English learning posts, what exactly is it that we do?

To be completely honest, I am not sure if there is a category suitable for our page. My current positions are a doctoral student and an educational consultant for e-learning companies and policy makers. In addition to hosting my classes, I use the page mainly to provide free resource and perform charitable activities.

I started the page in 2012 as a lecturer and the general manager of an overseas study company, and the aim was to share learning materials with my students. I would occasionally compile information online, edit them, and publish them for free. I started investing more time around 2014 and 2015, and we had about 20K fans at this point. I did not commercialize the page, so people did not know what I was doing (they literally wrote and asked me). I left my position as the general manager, and I was unsure of my next move.

I did not want to open a test prep center like many suggested. I did not want to sacrifice my ideals to meet business goals, and I felt I could do more to make use of my experience and strengths as a curriculum writer and teacher. I started consulting educational organizations and worked on my own online classes. It was a difficult path because there was simply very little demand for “educational consultants” in Taiwan. I had to carve my own path, and worked with numerous organizations such as ETS-Taiwan and the British Council to do so. Meanwhile, I kept writing and compiling information on our page, and it became arguably one of the largest databanks of free bilingual learning resources in Taiwan.

It was around late 2016 when I started regularly posting news in English (https://bit.ly/36o3Z1e). I felt that students need to be aware of current events and think critically rather than focusing only on basic linguistic features. While vocabulary and grammar are undoubtedly important to second language learners, there are already ample resources in these domains. Given my interest in international news and years of experience living and working in both Taiwan and the US, I aim to offer language learners a unique perspective in learning. I hope to provide as much free resource as I can. You might have noticed that I am in my 40s, a tad older than most online influencers. I come from a low-income, divorced family, and I started working when I was in junior high. I became independent when I turned 18, and took numerous jobs just to make ends meet. [Q / 問:] Pope Francis' style is changing the relation between Catholic Church and faithful in a way closest to the reality of people's lives. Do you think it's possible to adapt the traditional religious systems to the contemporary world without the risk of loss in terms of rules and doctrine?
教宗方濟各的風格改變了天主教與信徒的關係,令到宗教最能貼近人們生活現實。你覺得有沒有可能讓傳統宗教系統適應現代世界,而沒有喪失戒條和教義的危險?
[A / 答:] What I believe as a Buddhist, although Buddhism doesn't really have a belief system at all, so rather I should say what I understand, is that philosophies, religions, rituals, science, medicine, politics, economic science, agricultural science, all of these are just tools, nothing more, and at the end of the day, what we are supposed to do with these tools, or the nature of these tools, these methods, these means, is to bring awareness, to provide awareness to those who seek. All of these means are just a medium; all of these are languages. And we use these languages to make everyone aware of what is what, how things function, what is the nature of things, in the simplest of ways and the most elaborate ways, and that's about it.
作為一位佛教徒,我相信佛教並沒有一個信仰系統。那麼我寧願說:哲學、宗教、儀式、科學、醫學、經濟學、農業學,這些全部莫過於是工具。最終,我們應該利用這些工具或其性質、方法、途徑,讓在尋找的人得到覺知。這些工具全是媒介,全是語言。我們莫非用這些語言,最淺易、詳盡地,讓每人知道那是什麼、事情怎樣運作、事情的本質。

All there is, and all there will ever be, is clarity, clarity meaning excellence in a way, like beauty or truth, which is not a doctrine at all but the nature of the way things are - that a person practicing compassion or loving kindness on one side of the world, and another at the opposite end of the world - both in their own ways, their own language, their own culture, no matter how different they may be, no matter how different they look - that excellence has no border. That quality, that beauty, that truth has no border at all. There is no difference - we cannot separate that excellence in any way, and therefore it is sometimes described as timeless. However, we do have lots of different tools, languages, mediums to describe that excellence. And so of course the languages or the tools or the means that we utilise will always be different of course. As life is always changing, that language will always change. For example, the English language has always changed, ever since its conception, one could say; and it will continue to change - in a hundred years time it will be very different from how we use the English language right now - very, very different.

After flashing the rom do this....!
1. To fix settings force close when use "Tab view"
- Go to General options in hyper-tools and select "Old Style" option
- Open Settings and select List View
- Now uncheck the "Old Style" from hyper-tools
2. To set up a nougat like locksreen with hide clock in statusbar
- Enable AM-PM from hyper-tools & settings
- Enable "Lock Widgets" from hyper-tools
- Add "Hyper Clock Widget" in locksreen as widget also make sure to leave it in default view
3. Fix camera failed to open
Note: This should happen from an old 4.3 based stock
- Just flash this fix by JustArchi

4. Best way to flash the rom
- Go to CWM based recovery (Latest Recovery is recommended https://dl.twrp.me/i9300/) by holding HOME - POWER - and VOL UP BUTTON
- FULL WIPE is highly recommended!
- Mount everything (System, Data, Cache..)
- Choose "Install ZIP from sdcard"
- Choose ROM zip file
- Go through AROMA (Choose only what you want to install)
- Wait for finishing flashing
- Reboot and enjoy
5. What to do after first boot?!
- Do a systemui restart in hyper-tools from General options
- Enable Dynamic statusbar in settings from Advanced features
- Enable Long press home key in hyper-tools/ Buttons, Actions... / Physical Function Keys/ here
- Also in hyper-tools from Recent Apps select a style for recent apps
