Yao Pan Ma was just picking up cans to survive. Come on New York! Let’s find the POS who did this! #stopasianhate

The family of an Asian man attacked in East Harlem spoke out Sunday.
In an exclusive interview with CBS2’s Kiran Dhillon, the victim’s family said he remains in a coma in the ICU.
Baozhen Chen spent much of Sunday praying. The 57-year-old is experiencing deep sorrow as her husband, #YaoPanMa, fights for his life in a Manhattan hospital following a brutal beating.
“I’m very scared right now. I’m so worried that my husband might never come back,” Chen said through a translator.
A 13-second surveillance video shows the attack that took place Friday night at the corner of 125th Street and Third Avenue. The 61-year-old victim was collecting cans when police say he was attacked.
The suspect pushed Ma to the ground before repeatedly stomping on his head.
He was taken to Harlem Hospital with significant head injuries and remains in critical-but-stable condition.
The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force is now investigating.
“I am very panicked and sad,” Chen said. “My husband is very hardworking and nice person.”
Chen said the couple, who share two children back in China, immigrated to New York in late 2018. Chen said her husband worked as a dishwasher in a restaurant until he lost his job during the coronavirus pandemic.
Ineligible for unemployment, he started collecting bottles and cans to pay the bills.
The couple’s neighbors said they’re horrified to hear about the assault.
“They’re good people. I think they’re good people. It’s very sad. They just collect bottles. They don’ make any noise up here. I think it’s horrible,” Jermaine Mack said.
Friday’s attack comes amid a spike in hate against Asian-Americans in New York and across the country. As of last week, anti-Asian attacks in the city had increased 450% compared to the same period last year.
On Sunday, dozens of people marched through Manhattan, stopping at the site of Ma’s attack in East Harlem to speak out against anti-Asian hate. @cbsnewyork @kirandhillontv

So this week I tipped $5,000 at some of my absolute favorite Chinese takeout spots in New York City. The whole restaurant industry in New York City has been devastated by COVID and Chinese restaurants have been particularly hard-hit. So I wanted to give them a nice tip to show them how much we love and support them here at Xiaomanyc! Especially because it's Chinese New Year and it's a perfect time to give these restaurants some nice red envelopes. If you would like to get out there and support these NYC restaurants yourself, here are links to their pages on Yelp. Most are located in NYC’s Manhattan Chinatown. They are all awesome and highly recommended!

Michelin 1 ⭐️- The Musket Room
Last restaurant week dinner at this New Zealand cuisine place
We ordered the sourdough bread and the chicken liver as well
Love the smooth and rich-flavor taste of chicken liver
Overall dining experience was very nice
However, restaurant week menu is very different from their tasting menu
Hope I’ll have a chance to try it in the future

So most sushi restaurants in the U.S. are actually run by Chinese people, and so today we ordered sushi takeout in NYC using Chinese! An interesting social experiment to see what it’s like for a white guy to order sushi in Chinese! And remember to check out http://go.pathofcha.com/xiaoma to get some awesome tea!!!
We filmed this video last week and coronavirus matters have only gotten worse in NYC. Restaurants are still open for takeout in NYC, and now is a great time to support them, but remember to please to stay safe and maintain a safe distance from other people in the restaurant when ordering — or better yet, order by phone and go pick up!

Today we went looking for strangers in NYC’s Brooklyn Chinatown who had never had American BBQ before to take them to try American BBQ for the first time! We had all the specialties, including Texas style smoked brisket, pulled pork, sausage, mac and cheese, collard greens, baked beans, and cornbread. It was an amazing meal, and a really interesting experience watching Chinese people try American barbecue for the first time! And of course, given that this video is on my channel it does feature white guys talking with people in Chinese ;-) although that isn’t the main focus of this vid!
If you’re curious, the restaurant we went to was Hometown BBQ (Hometown Bar-B-Que) in Industry City, Brooklyn.
Editor’s note: We filmed this video last week, before the coronavirus outbreak started in earnest in NYC. Everyone should take precautions as advised by your local health authorities. Stay safe y’all!!!
