What stereotype have you broken?
I’ll start with one of mine.
Around 10 years ago, I struggled to get established as an educator in Hong Kong. In some places I applied for work, I was shocked to hear the words, “You are Filipino. While we believe you are qualified, the families of the students prefer teachers from other nationalities.” (I’m not saying this was the sentiment of the families— just, at least, the belief of some institutions.)
This was a decade ago, and much has changed. Collectively, early childhood institutions have changed the course, and therefore the perceptions of race and ethnicity within the industry.
For my part, one of the reasons I believe in training local talent is because, just as much as we value teachers from around the world, we must equally show our support and esteem towards our local Chinese and ethnic minority educators. It is true that we have many amazing international teachers— and we celebrate them, too. At the same time, we must invest in young people who will make a difference in their local communities.
There’s still a long way to go, but we’ve all come far— from how it was a decade ago.
This is in the Education industry, one of my areas of work. In the other— the Performing Arts— yet more stereotypes need to be broken. Let me chat about that in the coming posts.

English Learning Ecosystem Update
As I began exploring Instagram, I struggled to find a way to deliver useful academic content. Instagram posts typically focus on images, short clips, and concise text, which are attention grabbing but not always entirely conducive to language learning. I looked over the posts of established Instagram English learning accounts, and experimented with vocabulary posts and even news posts for a couple of weeks. Not wanting to post just images, I thought about creating something new even with the rigid format of the platform.

A tenet of using tech in education is to engage students with what they are familiar with, not give them an entirely new platform that is difficult to use. So, how could I create a new series of Instagram posts that is both educational and unique? I thought about my goal to disseminate academic English resources, and how I could leverage my experience as a curriculum writer and voice recording artist for public school textbooks.

So far, this is what I have at the moment. I will post Word of the Day (每日一詞), high frequency vocabulary words that you see in academic texts and sometimes on the news. These Tier 2 academic vocabulary words are not exclusive to a single domain and complement the theme-based approach I’ve taken with my mind-mapping vocabulary class. You can find other vocabulary learning methods here.

In these posts, I added the pronunciation, collocation, and example sentences of each word for students. These words will be helpful to university-level students who often read academic texts and the news. Students can access them by simply clicking on the hashtag

To help students use more precise and common academic phrases, I then added Academic Phrases (每日一句), set phrases that appear in both academic speech and writing. These phrases have varying functions from introducing a topic to comparing and contrasting ideas. There is a difference between speech and writing, so I picked words that could be used for both. If one is used only in a specific context, I will make note of it in the video recording. This series of posts will help students with language output, and can be found under the following hashtag

Last, I will follow up with an abridged version of breaking news (時事英文) with high frequency collocations and audio recordings. This will provide students with the input of not only individual words, but how to use them in output (speech and writing) with context. While all these news posts might seem independent at first, I will eventually link and organize them by theme when there are enough posts. Along with my news class, these extra posts will help students stay aware of current events, acquire set phrases used in journalism, and develop critical thinking. These posts can currently be found under the hashtag EEL時事英文.

A Valley Full of Spoils
“When Judah came to the place overlooking the wilderness, they looked at the multitude; and behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and there were none who escaped. When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take their plunder, they found among them in abundance both riches and dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away. They took plunder for three days, it was so much. On the fourth day, they assembled themselves in Beracah Valley, for there they blessed Yahweh. Therefore the name of that place was called “Beracah Valley” to this day.” (2 Chronicles 20:24-26 WEB)
The inward picture of a valley filled with spoils resonated strongly with me today.
Yet, I didn’t see any dead bodies, but only the good things. It’s like God saying that the trials and troubles we go through are to be counted as nothing, in comparison to the great blessings that will be ours.
“looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2 WEB)
Like how Jesus focused on the joy that would come after the cross—the joy of reconciling us to God, we can also look beyond our present sufferings and see the great good that will come thereafter.
With God, we are always living with hope because we can confidently expect good things to happen to us, even if our current circumstances are not ideal.
What caused the spoils to be accumulated in Berecah Valley? Let’s look at the story:
“They rose early in the morning, and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. As they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in Yahweh your God, so you will be established! Believe his prophets, so you will prosper.” When he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who were to sing to Yahweh, and give praise in holy array, as they go out before the army, and say, “Give thanks to Yahweh; for his loving kindness endures forever.” When they began to sing and to praise, Yahweh set ambushers against the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were struck. For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them: and when they had finished the inhabitants of Seir, everyone helped to destroy another.” (2 Chronicles 20:20-23 WEB)
Jehoshaphat and the armies of Judah did not depend on their swords and chariots for the victory. Instead, Jehoshaphat made praise their weapon of choice.
Without relying on the flesh, he exalted Yahweh God and proclaimed His love and grace.
At these words, God fought for Judah, and all the enemies killed each other. Judah didn’t have to fight at all because Yahweh fought for them.
Whether you are in good or undesirable circumstances right now, this truth never changes: God is always good, and His love and grace endures forever.
So, go ahead, praise Him and see all your enemies, obstacles and hindrances taken out of the way like they are nothing. You will pick up an abundance of spoils, and the Lord Jesus will be greatly exalted through your testimony, in the sight of all!

The Real Threat to the US is the loss of self-confidence
──An Open Letter to Mr. Secretary Mike Pompeo
My name is Wang Ping-Chung, the spokesperson for the New Party, Taiwan’s political party. During the ongoing pandemic of the Covid-19, the enemy of all human beings, including the American people and Chinese people, is definitely the corona virus. However, as Secretary of State of the United States, you seem to consider China instead of the virus to be your enemy. It lets you do little in pandemic prevention but much in blaming the WHO and China. You have even made great efforts to politicalize the issue of public health in order to attack China, which reflects the United States’ prevailing concept of so-called China’s threat. Nevertheless, the real threat to the US is not China but the loss of self-confidence indeed.
As President Franklin Roosevelt once said, “Only thing we have to fear is the fear itself.” The threat you have to fear today is not other peoples but yourselves. Even though you have done your best to shift blames on the WHO and China, the fact is already clear of the US domestic misdiagnosed cases, which had been seen as H1N1 but in fact corona virus since last autumn. It is also your fault in underestimating the severity of the epidemic while China sacrificed itself to let the world have more preparation time. Accordingly, the Covid-19 has killed more than fifty thousand people in America. As China’s population is four times larger than the US, it is quite shocking that America’s death toll due to the Covid-19 has been above China’s.
I feel so sorry for the suffering of your people, yet it is never too late to mend. However, not only did you palm off the responsibility on others, but you also undermined international solidarity against the pandemic. Moreover, you even try to deny the status of the WHO as the coordinator for universal combat against diseases, which in some way means challenging the global institutions under the governance of the United Nations. It is so unbelievable that the United States, viewing itself as the world leader above half a century, is tending to destroy the world order recognized by the international society. The very reason I can think of is the loss of America’s self-confidence. It is the threat to both the US and the whole world.
For Liberalists in the United States, China has been believed either an opponent or a violator to international institutions. As far as it’s concerned, there had been debates whether to keep containing China economically and militarily or engaging it institutionally. Both were resulted from America’s confidence in its leadership. Consequently, the confidence gradually changed into arrogance, luring the United States into aggressions upon other countries as the global superpower without permission from the UN Security Council. It made America exhausted at last. Therefore, the United States has become an isolationist, and even a betrayer to the global institutions they established before. On the contrary, China seems more like a protector of the world order.
On the other hand, for Realists, the predominant thinkers in international politics, China has been seen as the primary rival to America. As they estimate there will be threat if any other regional hegemony occurs, the nation’s fear becomes beyond what its capability can hold. To some extent, this is the real crisis to your people. In fact, different from western nations developing themselves by oppressing and exploiting others, the Chinese people have risen out of poverty at the cost of blood, sweat, and tears of our own. I would like to remind you of Franklin Roosevelt’s self-evident words that nothing to fear but fear itself. The only threat you should conquer is the threat in your mind.
As Henry Kissinger has argued, relations between China and the United States need not – and should not – become a zero-sum game. He also suggested that China and America build a Pacific community with each other. Thinking in the same way, Chinese President Xi also claimed that the vast Pacific Ocean has enough space for the two large countries of China and the United States. Furthermore, I believe the world is large enough to embrace different political and social systems. As western liberalism in recent years has met difficulties in over-consumption and government failure, we should be more open-minded to the superiority of Chinese governance in some fields, especially the high efficiency in defeating the epidemic. The United States should also be more self-confident to have China rising under the global governance of international institutions, sharing with mutual benefits instead of destroying each other. Without doubt, only by doing so can the United States overcome the real threat and bring the world peace and prosperity, the real universal values for all mankind.

HELLO! :) PLEASE CLICK "READ MORE"! (Cos I talk a lot by nature and there are certain things that I would like to tell you people and if you don't click "Read More" or "More" then you won't see what I'm getting at. So PLEASE CLICK "READ MORE!" Or "MORE"!... Actually I don't know what it really says...HAHAH)
Another tag video! I know this video is usually done by established YouTubers. But to be honest, I feel that this is a very interesting tag as compared to other tag videos. I have a couple of things to say in addition to my Draw My Life video. So here it is.
I didn't have any specific message or words of wisdom for you guys like how many (if not all) of the famous and established YouTubers have done. And I know that my message at the end was kinda cheesy. But if you managed to catch some of my life defining moments- it all revolves around confidence and believing in yourself. It is insanely cheesy, what I'm saying or what I said in my video. But as cheesy as it is, it's actually a common thing that people need to constantly be reminded of and losing confidence in oneself is a thing that happens to everyone at one point in time.
Secondly, for my friends and family watching this,
a) If you're not featured in this video, doesn't mean you didn't make an impact in my life. So don't think I don't care, I do. But I can only draw so much LOL. And I'm not like Daddy who's bloody brilliant in art and sketching
b) I stated one part about family (referring to my extended family here. My parents are supportive). I'm not upset about it anymore cos as time went by I realised that I dictate my own future and I do not need to use you guys as a benchmark of how I should lead my academic life.
And my last message for all you people who share the same sentiments as I do, is that you draw your own life. Do what makes you happy, what is good and beneficial for you. Just cos one thing works for someone else, doesn't mean it will and has to work for you.
This is the longest message I've written in my description box. HAHAHA.
I'm sorry if it was lengthy, but I hope in some way, I've inspired some of you.
If it didn't then..... Nevermind? Hahahaha.
Please 'Like' if you liked my video!
And Please Subscribe if you want to see more videos from meeeeeeeeeee. hehehe
Thank you for watching! :)
PS: If you have nothing nice to say, just don't say anything at all. Kthanksbye! ^^
