To Freedom / You and your mother tongue
.
#Taiwan is something of a melting pot in terms of language. We’ve been working hard to reduce the historical stigma attached to some of these languages and to ensure that they are not lost to future generations. New languages are also being carried to our shores by new arrivals, creating a linguistically dynamic young generation of bilingual or multilingual children and young adults. These young people benefit from the ability to engage in intergenerational communication, important in the preservation of cultural identity and for a more cohesive society.

We recently featured an Indonesian teacher in Taiwan--a new arrival--and one of her students--part of this multilingual younger generation--in “To Freedom,” our promotional short to mark the #UNGA76. They tell the story of Taiwan’s respect for all its languages when they say:

“Here, the natural languages of Taiwan’s inherent ethnic groups are official languages. Regardless of what language you speak at home, you’ll continue to be taught it at school. I don’t need a translator to talk with my grandparents.”

If the UN states part of its mission as encouraging countries around the world to respect the rights of their people, Taiwan's vision of global partnership can serve as a valuable reference.

- explor + er = explorer (nhà thám hiểm)
- invent + or = inventor (nhà phát minh)
- read + er = reader (độc giả)
- swim + er = swimmer (tay bơi lội)
- to tour + ist = tourist (du khách)
- translate + or = translator (phiên dịch viên)
- type + ist = typist (thư ký đánh máy)
Tiếp ngữ -ist hay –ian cũng thường được thêm vào sau một danh từ hay tính từ để chỉ người tham gia hoặc tham dự vào một lĩnh vực nào.
VD:
- druggist, artist, violinist, receptionist, pianist, specialist, naturalist, socialist…
- librarian, historian, grammarian, technician, physician, electrician, mathematician…

☀ 6. Những từ tận cùng bằng –ibe đổi sang danh từ tat hay nó bằng –iption
- to describe – description (sự miêu tả)
- to prescribe – prescription (toa thuốc, sự quy định)
- to subscribe – subscription (việc mua báo dài hạn, đóng góp quỹ)
- to transcribe – transcription (sự sao chép)

☀ 7. Những động từ tận cùng bằng –ify đổi sang danh từ thay nó bằng –ification
- to amplify – amplification (sự khuếch đại)
- to certify – certification (sự chứng nhận)
- to identify – identification (sự nhận dạng)
- to verify – verification (sự thẩm tra)

☀ 8. Những động từ tận cùng bằng –ose đổi sang danh từ ta bỏ e rồi thêm –ition

這次去巴黎有在地朋友帶路 本來必去清單上只有5 6項
結果到最後我去了整整30多個景點
不過有拍下來的就是這25個左右
下面是我在巴黎四天的行程表 給有興趣的人參考囉～
(如果是我很推薦的會在後面打星星)

Here comes the Paris Vlog! I've got a Parisian to guide me this time, and I actually visited more than 30 spots (but only filmed ~25 spots :p) Below are the layout of the places i've visited, feel free to take it as reference if you're planning on going to Paris :)

Day 1:

A short film by GRIM FILM's newest member, Sidney Chan from WayangTree Productions. The sound of music has an effect on us that not many would realise. Listening to familiar melodies can send us off to a faraway space and time; such as the first time and place we met, spoke, or laughed together.

"Resonance" is an experimental film about conversations through memories and non-linear storytelling. A single conversation takes place across several different locations, parallel to each other, signifying the passage of time and the developing relationship between its two main characters as recalled in memory.

Originally conceived as a simple promotional video for HELP University's FrequenC club's 5th Annual Concert, the project grew to what it is now; shot within 7 days and released just in time to be the concert's opening video on June 4th, 2014. Resonance draws several inspirations from other films; particularly old school Hong Kong dramas and Wong Fu Productions, with Joe Hisaishi's Kikujiro as a point of reference for the theme song (which had been lovingly composed by budding violinist Joshua Lew).

The crew from WayangTree Productions had been a strong supporter of FrequenC, and had collaborated in making short films since 2012.

As the original members had since moved on with their lives and its director Sidney Chan moving on to GRIM FILM, Resonance is WayangTree's final short film, and will remain dormant for an unspecified time.

This film was a race against time and an incredible adventure of chance, new and renewed friendships, and new experiences - it was a first time for the majority of the cast and crew, including the main actors. Every single person had their lasting impact on the development of this film, no matter how big or small. God bless everyone!
