Reading this post by @Shacind Ananthan
(@shacindananthan) made me cry tears of joy and pride, I felt compelled to share it with all of you...
"This is for all my fellow Malaysians who are still abroad; I hope this gives you a little insight on what went on during my journey from the UK all the way to the hotel I am quarantined in in KL. To my non-Malaysian friends, this is me unabashedly showing off the exemplary work by our government. This is my tribute to the countless men and women in duty who assisted us with so much care and respect.
It all started on the plane from Doha to KL, where I had transited from Manchester. With a mere 50 people on the plane, we were all fairly separated to sit in isolation from one another. After taking off, we were handed a Health Declaration form to fill up. In addition to the general information (name, age, etc), COVID specific questions were also asked. It even asked for our flight and seat number- I figured it was to track down those who came in contact with a suspected COVID-19 patient.
When I landed in KLIA, we were greeted warmly by 2 men in uniform at the end of the jet bridge. One was coordinating us to queue, strictly keeping in mind the 1m gap, and the other was guiding us to the skytrain on a Segway. As we approached the skytrain, another policewoman took over and brought us to the bus lounge, where we boarded a bus to the arrival hall. Each bus had a maximum of only 10 people, and the seats were marked with an ‘X’ to make sure we sat adjacent to each other. In the bus was another policewoman who made sure we went in one by one, and only allowed the next person to enter once the previous one had sat down. A recurring theme you would find is that at every ‘checkpoint’ there were at least 1-2 officers who did their job so diligently, that there was no hold up, making the process very smooth. It felt as if this was an extremely well thought out procedure that had been going on for years. All the i’s were dotted and t’s crossed.
Once we alighted the bus, we walked to the immigration counters and were screened by an infra-red thermometry system. After passing it, we were guided towards a team of health officials from KKM on the right. I was very impressed with the number of health officials and the amenities provided for them. There were around 10 officials in what looked like full hazmat suits, each provided with a chair and table. I was greeted by this lovely woman, who asked for my health declaration form and reaffirmed if I had any symptoms. The constant glee on her face and referring to me as “adik” made me feel like I was in safe hands. The first step to addressing a crisis is to calm the stakeholders. It is the little things like these that reassures one in an anxiety driven situation. She then gave me a home assessment form where I had to monitor and report my symptoms daily.
After clearing the immigration, we queued up to sanitize our hands, and then were given another form to register our particulars and emergency contacts. We sat down and filled up the forms while waiting for 3 more batches of people to arrive. After 20 minutes passed, a police officer gave us a short briefing on the do’s and don’ts while in quarantine. The question on everyone’s minds was “where are we being taken?”. I overheard conversations of people praying that it was a five-star hotel in KL. However dire the circumstances, the innate Malaysian tendency to always expect luxury never fades, does it? The policeman politely replied that he wasn’t sure where we were going to be quarantined, but assured us it was going to be a good place nevertheless.
Then we were escorted by another officer to the baggage claim area where our luggage had already been taken off the baggage carousel and organized for us to simply go and grab them. I figured that this was to reduce the contact between people in case we crowd around the conveyer belt. This also significantly reduced the time taken for us to get re-organized. Take note of the little details that the authorities paid attention to.
Later on, the same police officer led us to the arrival hall where 3 Smart Selangor buses had already been parked for us to board. Before entering the bus, a fireman proceeded to fumigate our luggage and backpacks one by one, while we sanitized our hands once more before being handed a bag full of snacks by another officer. In the bus was a lady who helped us load our luggage. It was very systematic, only allowing one person in the bus at a time to maintain social distancing.
We waited for around 30 minutes for all 3 batches of people to board the buses. My mind was still in a state of disbelief, I and kept wondering how much manpower and logistics it must have taken to make the process as smooth as possible and achieve this insane level of efficiency. Before leaving, the bus driver announced that we were being taken to Impiana KLCC Hotel. Mental gasps could be heard from the 15 people in the bus.
The journey to the hotel was just short of 50 minutes. We were all aghast looking at the sight before us when we reached the hotel. People were busy clicking pictures and taking videos of the scene that frankly seemed like it belonged to a distant dystopian future. Dozens of people in full hazmat suits were standing by a long table which looked like an assembly line, busy screening and registering us aliens. Before we got off the bus, a man in a PASKAU uniform briefed us on the next course of action. He told us to keep our passports ready for registration. We patiently helped each other with the luggage (still maintaining an appropriate distance) and queued up according to yellow tapes on the ground. I was standing in line between two sisters, so I offered the one behind me to take my spot but she politely declined. Soon enough, it was my turn.
The lady at the start of the table proceeded to check my temperature with a temperature gun and passed me another form, similar to the home assessment one. I then handed my passport to the next guy who immediately photo stated it with the photocopier behind him. While waiting for my passport, the following person asked for my phone number and my place of origin. After I received my passport, I was given the room key along with two masks and was quickly thrusted into the hotel. While it seemed quick and rushed, it was effective as the primary goal was to limit as much contact with others as possible.
As I walked in, I saw the girl who was in front of me struggling with her 4 huge bags, so me and another KKM personnel assisted her into the lift. We had a brief conversation and I got to know that she was a third-year student who had to leave the UK and pack her things for good overnight. Laughing at the fact that our rooms were next to each other, we bid goodbye and stormed into our rooms. In the room were two boxes of bottled water, plastic bags for the contaminated clothes, a huge bag filled with coffee, biscuits and snacks and so on. We are being served good nutritious food three times a day and housed in a four star (some five star) hotel all for free of charge. There is 24/7 surveillance and a medical team at our doorstep at all times. I bow down to this great nation with utmost humility, thank you for this Malaysia.
This lockdown/ quarantine has really cultivated the sense of community and the innate feeling of unity that we had lost. Though the time frame of when this epidemic will end is still unclear, it became clear to me that we will pull through, because that’s what Malaysians do best. This was further proven when all 74 of us quarantined at Impiana KLCC were added into a WhatsApp group by Lieutenant Zakee (who was in charge of our welfare in the hotel) for ease of communication. The group was instantly flooded with messages of hope, optimism and love and gratitude for the lieutenant, health workers and other officers who heroically put our welfare in front of their own lives.
Why am I writing this? This is a primary account of someone who experienced the plight of leaving a foreign country overnight with an uncertain future. This is to counter the fake narratives online that seek to defame our great nation. The entire ecosystem functioned like a well-oiled machine, NO stone was left unturned. It is not an overstatement when I say that Malaysia has been one of the most proactive countries with tackling the menace of COVID-19. Therefore, I urge the armchair economists at home, the constant naysayers- if you cannot acknowledge the good our government is doing, at least don’t stand in their way.
Thank you again, Malaysia, for keeping me safe. I have always been, am always, and will always be a proud citizen of this country that has given me so much.
Tanah tumpahnya darahku!

【教書育人,立德樹人】(English writing below)
.....................................................
"Teacher Lee, why do you never get angry? I must learn spiritual cultivation from you to learn your patience!"
Last week, a colleague adorably said that to me out of the blue.
I have been teaching for 11 years unknowingly. Teaching my clients and young children are not very different. Both are equally clueless, both need the guidance of an experienced teacher. Some children also turn out to be more sensible than adults. In this process of guiding, when I am strict, whether the clients or students can accept the teachings, will depend on their trust in me and their personal learning attitude.
As a teacher, adaptability and spontaneous reaction are very critical. And these are the three matters that I am very principled in:
1) I do not praise the outer appearance of my students.
Many parents will doll up their daughters for class. Some little girls will come with fanciful braids and in different princess frocks every week. There are some who even wear a sparkling tiara. No matter how prettily dressed they are, I never exclaim at them, "Wow, how cute! How pretty! How beautiful!"
A classroom is not a stage for a beauty pageant. I do not wish for the young children to build a strong mindset based on external appearances, and have an empty heart. For the children who do not get praised on their appearances by me, what would they be thinking? What if they too wish to dress up next time? What is going to happen if their parents do not have the financial ability to support their vanity?
.
One P1 girl liked to dress in denim shorts and sleeveless cropped tops. Very often, she would complain of coldness. Once I got very stern and told her, "You know that the classroom is air-conditioned. Why did you come to class without a jacket? You do not see me dressed like you, your classmates do not either. Every week, you would get so cold that you cannot focus in class and would interrupt me often with your complaints of coldness. Tell me, is this a problem you or Teacher Lee created?"
She replied quietly, "I created."
"Since you created this problem, then you have to solve it yourself. Do not push your problem to me. That is very selfish of you."
That day after class, I reminded her mother to pack a jacket for her. After knowing what happened, her mum said, "Aiyah, she lah, always want to dress like that, say like that then pretty."
"Madam, the kid does not realise that, so she needs the reminder from her parents. I have already spoken to her and I seek your assistance."
That was the last time the little girl ever complained of coldness in my class again.
.
It was the first lesson of a new academic year.
This child hid beside the classroom door. Regardless how her mother advised or coaxed her, she cried non-stop, refusing to step inside the class. All the kids were already seated, sans for her. I looked at her minute figure, and looked at the clock. The class got to start soon. I had to think of a way.
I walked out of the classroom and stretched out my hand, "Good afternoon, I am Teacher Lee. Can you tell me your name?"
In between her blubbers of tears and mucus, the child told me her name. I exclaimed, "XX, wow! Do you know that your hair is very pretty? It's curly and bouncy! Teacher Lee likes it a lot! Did Mummy comb your hair for you, or did you do it yourself?"
Just like that, in our mini Q&A, I slowly led the child into the classroom. That was my first and last time complimenting on her looks. I sincerely do think she has really pretty natural curls. From what I heard, when this child goes for make-up lessons in other classes, she would still cry like a baby, except for my class. She couldn't tell me why either. I guess, this is an elemental affinity of our teacher-student bond.
..........................
2) I value manners in my students
A colleague once told me that assisting me in my class was an enjoyment, as the class had good order and the children could do their work well.
I insist that children must greet the teachers when they enter the classroom (Many don't). They are not allowed to talk during lessons, and definitely not in English. When they submit their work, they have to do it neatly and not throw it onto the teachers. If they wish to go to the restroom, they must stand properly and ask, "Teacher Lee, may I go to the restroom?", and not grab on to their pants and yell, "Teacher, I want to go toilet!"
I am very principled on this, and my colleague asked why the extra emphasis on propriety and courtesy?
Courtesy is the very first form of kindness that we humans learn, and it remains as the easiest kind deed to do.
My reply was: so that we can create a conducive learning environment, that the teachers enjoy teaching in and the children revel learning in. Knowing how to say thank you, sorry and giving way can enhance inter-personal relationships. When these children grow up, my hope is that with their good manners, it pave the way for better relations with people, and life will be much easier for them at home and at work.
..........................
3) I have expectations towards children of stronger abilities
In every class, there will be some children that are especially smart. They learn fast and finish homework at the speed of lightning. Problem is, when they are better than their peers at a young age, they do not always understand the concept of helping one another.
Once, I asked a student who had finished her work to help her weaker classmate. Halfway through, she made loud exasperation sounds and I immediately put a halt to her behaviour.
"There will be times when you do your homework wrongly or do not know how to do. And every time when I teach you, have I ever shouted at you?"
She pursed her lips and shook her head.
"Then why did you not learn my teaching attitude to help your classmates?"
She could not say a word.
"You are very smart and I am happy that you have strong learning ability. However, I hope you do not use your cleverness only for yourself, but also to help your friends who are slower than you. Just like how we teachers use our cleverness to help all of you, so that everyone can improve themselves together. Such cleverness is the most amazing kind."
When Heaven bestows great abilities onto you, you have to learn how to shoulder greater responsibility. As you plough these seeds of kindness, you then regain the affinity for great wisdom even in your next rebirths.
..........................
Having taught 200+ students in over a decade, I have met many different types of parents and children. In this journey of teaching, I have had students who pushed me down with force, scratched me and bellowed at me. I once witnessed a fellow teacher, who had her palm stabbed by a student with a pencil. It was somewhat an accident, but still...
Many parents have the time to give birth to children, but do not have the time and ability to teach. That is a fact of reality. It is always with a slight regret that I cannot use my Metaphysics ability to help them manage their domestic issues, but within the four walls of a classroom, I do my best to help parents groom their children.
Be it my clients or these young children, in my heart, there is never a bad student. Sometimes, it is just that I have yet to find a teaching method that is most suitable for them.
This year, I met many great teachers who are working very hard to contribute to the children. I am thankful to have their help, and also thank you to the parents who have showered me with gifts this year.
We are all engineers of the human soul. Let's work hard so that we can give the children a very healthy growing up process, and that their childhood memories will be beautiful and meaningful.

Hello! Here is the first of my quarantining solo vlogs. What should I name this series? Is this the first time I've struggled to think of a pun using my last name? ? also currently working on a quarantine day in my life video, please look forward to it! ??♀️
I'm turning 21 in exactly 1 week and...I did not imagine I'd be celebrating in quarantine ? But that's ok because birthdays come every year and we shouldn't be risking public safety by throwing birthday parties in the midst of a pandemic ???
How have you been celebrating your quarantine birthdays while socially distancing? Please send me suggestions ?

10 MOST INFLUENTIAL ASIAN SUPERHEROES FROM MARVEL & DC
There are a lot of comic book fans out there, and many of them are Asian. Yet historically, superheroes of Asian descent have been a rare thing in the Marvel & DC universes.
With movies like Captain America Civil War, Batman vs Superman and Deadpool already having broken several box office records this year, superhero movies are only getting more popular.
And you know, you have the first female solo superhero film in quite some time coming out in 2017 with DC’s Wonder Woman, and the first black solo superhero film in some time coming out in 2018 with Marvel’s Black Panther. Makes me wonder when we’ll see the first Asian solo superhero film on the big screen.
But we’re a long ways off because first, we actually need a successful and popular Asian superhero in the comics, and thus far, it’s not clear if we even have one.
Well you be the judge.
1. Jubilee (Marvel)
- arguably the most well-known Asian superhero
- a Chinese-American girl born in LA
- X-Men’s youngest member in the early 1990s
2. Shang Chi (Marvel)
- created in the 1970s, a period in time where people were crazy for Bruce Lee and anything Kung Fu related
- the premiere Asian character of the 70s
- born in China
- son & nemesis of the infamous, wealthy international Chinese crime lord Fu Manchu.
- has no superpowers, but is an expert in all forms of martial arts
- unfortunately as stereotypically Asian as you can get
3. Sunfire (Marvel)
- Japan’s premiere superhero
- just like Shang Chi, an Asian character of overt Asian symbolisms.
- real name, Shiro Yoshida
- born to a mother who suffered radiation poisoning (Hiroshima atomic bomb)
- became a mutant possessing solar radiation powers
4. Atom (DC)
- real name, Ryan Choi
- super smart & gets good grades
- can be quite the ladies’ man
- from Hong Kong
- protege of original Atom, Ray Palmer
- the Atom is a super hero who can shrink to a subatomic size (like Ant-Man)
- pretty noteworthy because first time an Asian guy took over the mantle of an existing superhero with an already established fan base
- too bad he only appeared in 78 issues before being killed off by the assassin, Deathstroke
- his death became the subject of racial controversy as he had been one of the few high profile Asian characters in the DC Universe
5. Batgirl (DC)
- real name, Cassandra Cain
- she’s a halfie, with a white dad and a Chinese mom
- adopted by Bruce Wayne, aka Batman.
- under Batman’s watch, she became Batgirl
- some refer to her as the Asian Batgirl
6. Psylocke (Marvel)
- real name is Elizabeth “Betsy” Braddock, originally a blonde haired girl from Essex, Great Britain
- a mutant with vast telepathic and telekinetic powers and a long time X-Man.
- had her soul transferred into the body of a Japanese female ninja
- in X-Men: Apocalypse movie she is played by Olivia Munn (Is this another example of whitewashing in Hollywood?)
7. Ms. Marvel (Marvel)
- real name, Kamala Khan, the second Ms. Marvel who made her debut in 2013
- a Pakistani Muslim teenage girl living in New Jersey from a very traditional Pakistani family.
- is an inhuman (a race of superhumans)
- her power makes her able to stretch her body in unimaginable ways
8. Silk (Marvel)
- real name Cindy Moon, a Korean American girl.
- Spiderman was bitten by a radioactive spider but what we didn’t know was, so did another student
9. Hulk (Marvel)
- in 2015 we were introduced to a Korean Hulk.
- real name, Amadeus Cho, a Korean American
- this new Hulk fights gamma monsters while traveling cross country with his sister Maddy
10. Superman
- DC one upped Marvel by making one of, if not, the most iconic superhero of all time Asian.
- Superman is now Chinese!
- a 17 year old kid from Shanghai named Kenan Kong
- you can imagine the outrage this has caused as ‘superman is supposed to be white’ and American
