Today, my heart was heavy while watching the State funeral. When Singaporeans cried and the heavens weeped for him, I realised I too couldn't hold back my tears. No, not at all.
My kids saw Mama weeping on the sofa as we watched "Remembering Lee Kuan Yew". Maybe they didn't understand why the emotions were so strong, to be honest I didn't too, but they sure knew sorrow when they saw it.
5-year-old Angel came up to give me a tight embrace and laid on my chest for a long time. She didn't say a word, but as my tears flowed onto and down her head, I could hear her quietly sobbing too. 2-year-old Ariel asked "Mummy, why are you crying?" I pointed to the TV and told her I was sad that Mr Lee left us. She thought for a moment, then said "Mummy misses Lee Kuan Yew" before she climbed up to me and used a piece of tissue paper to dab on my eyes. Then she looked down, spoke in a sad voice, tried to 'dry' her own eyes and gave me a big bear hug.
I never felt more thankful to be a Singaporean and to be a mum than I felt at that point. Thank you kids, for alleviating my pain. Thank you Mr Lee, for giving my family this beautiful homeland. We will pass on the legacy and do our best to make it even better for generations to come. Farewell, our father. #riplky
