As I Have “Loved” You
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also love one another.” (John 13:34 WEB)
Does Jesus still love us today? Yes of course, His love endures forever and nothing will separate us from the love of God.
Then why did Jesus use the past tense “loved” in the verse above?
I believe it is because He wants us to see Him loving us in a specific way that He accomplished in the past. Not just imagining that He loves us, but based on an event that happened.
For everyone reading these words throughout time, they can look back to the time when Jesus died for them on the cross. They can read about it in the four gospels.
This is how He loved us. He loved us with arms stretched wide, nailed upon the cross.
His back was lacerated by the scourging He endured before being crucified, and in the spirit realm, invisible to the eyes of men, He was burnt by the fiery wrath of God for sins. It was like being tortured in Hell with the most intense level of pain for those hours that He hung alive at the cross.
Anytime you are disappointed or discouraged by circumstances and feel like God has abandoned you to suffer, look back to how Jesus loved you at the cross.
If Abba God gave His only begotten Son who He loves so dearly to die for us at the cross and pay the ultimate price for sins, while we were still enemies who didn’t care about God at all, there is absolutely no way that He will abandon you or stop loving you today.
Our confidence in God’s love for us is not based on a feeling, but based on a true demonstration.
“For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.” (Romans 5:6-11 NKJV)
Jesus carried your sins and diseases at the cross even though He was perfect and did no wrong, and He suffered great agony before He gave up His spirit. Nothing the devil throws at you can ever change this truth.
Words really fail to accurately and precisely describe what Jesus went through for us. If could feel just one minute of what He suffered at the cross, we would truly be grateful to Him.
Imagine being pierced, lacerated, and bruised all over your body, all the darkness of the sins of the world entering you, and being burnt with hellfire at the level meant for the worst sinner.
Thank You Jesus for suffering those six hours on the cross. People can die from one moment of getting hit by a car—think about that. Even just one second of the pain and despair of the cross would wreck us. Lord Jesus, we give You all the glory, the honor, and believe that Your love for us endures forever.

“Old Man” Versus “New Man”
“Don’t lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings, and have put on the new man, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator, where there can’t be Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, bondservant, freeman; but Christ is all, and in all.” (Colossians 3:9-11 WEB)
Read the passage above and notice how putting off the old man and putting on the new man are in the past tense.
When you are saved, these events are already completed. You have already put on the new man. You have been recreated in the image of Christ—perfect, righteous, holy and acceptable to God.
However, you are still undergoing a renewal in knowledge. It is not happening in your spirit which has already been perfected by the Holy Spirit.
This renewal is happening in your mind. Your mind is still catching up to the truth of what has happened to your spirit.
Within our mind, there is always the struggle of the “old man” versus the “new man”. The world always tries to deceive us into putting on the unregenerated mindset of a sinner who is dead in sin.
For example, as mentioned in the passage above, the “old man” sees the differences which separate men into factions, whereas God sees all born-again believers as one in Christ. We are individual members that make up the body of Christ.
That’s why Paul urges us to be transformed (in soul and body) by renewed our minds through receiving the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We have to put on the new man in our minds because that is who we truly are now.
“Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2 WEB)
We are no longer that “old man” who loves sin and reaps death. That human spirit has been crucified with Christ, and we are a new creation in Christ.
Replace the “old man” thoughts and beliefs in your mind with godly beliefs as you hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God is working on you to make you think and behave like Him.
“Now, brothers, I entrust you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build up, and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” (Acts 20:32 WEB)
Prioritize receiving the word of God’s Grace daily. It is an important time of mind renewal. This is not just for soothing your emotions—there is so much power released when you believe the Gospel of Grace. It builds you up in many ways and enables you to receive the inheritance (all of God’s blessings) that you have in Christ.
The world’s ways only lead to burn out, stress, depression, compromise and losses. On the other hand, God’s ways lead to restful and unceasing fruitfulness. Supernatural ways lead to supernatural results!

【純閱讀分享:The Hunger Games三部曲 】
著名的台詞「If we burn, you burn with us!」
最後,又回到這句話:「If we burn, you burn with us!」
女主角Katniss說這番話的背景,就是向著叛逆軍的演講,前文的話也很有意思:「I want to tell people that if you think for one second the Capitol will treat us fairly if there’s a cease-fire, you’re deluding yourself. Because you know who they are and what they do … this is what they do and we must fight back!”
如果大家想提升英文程度,或者萎靡不振需要激勵,不妨趁著假期讀這部作品吧!我相信大部分公共或中學的圖書館都可以借得到的,對不對?

Have you ever dreamed of quitting everything to travel around the world?
Inexperienced and ill-prepared, thirty-four-year-old Eric Giuliani set out to make his way around the world without flying and with little money after quitting his corporate career. With ideas of becoming a globetrotting travel writer, photographer, and filmmaker, he attempts to reinvent himself on the road and begins to barter his way across Africa, then Europe, Asia, Australia, North and South America, and Antarctica.
Sky’s the Limit is the story of Eric’s 1,000-day, 70,000-mile journey, one that is both internal and external—think Eat, Pray, Love meets Bear Grylls. His overland travel is as arduous as it gets and he primarily relies on public transportation—tin-can buses, dilapidated trains, and cargo ships to cross the oceans. His internal journey is equally arduous. Fighting creative insecurities, devastating heartbreak, financial fears, and long stretches of isolation, he repeatedly must dig down deep in order to persevere.
Often driven by intuition and defiant determination, Eric’s adventure pushes him past rocky stretches: a tense, two-day bus ride across a region recently attacked by the terrorist outfit Al Shabaab; a train journey in Europe alongside Syrian refugees Eric is powerless to help; a mixup in Siberia that leaves him stranded in the middle of winter. There are joyful moments as well: swimming with great white sharks in South Africa, falling in love in Australia, a booze cruise through Ha Long Bay, and finding a community of friends in Antarctica. Along the journey, Eric discovers his creativity and also his purpose.
An absorbing, first-hand account of overcoming seemingly impossible obstacles, Sky’s the Limit will inspire readers to dream up thrilling journeys of their own.
