Christmas is just eight days away, woofies! While it is an exciting time of the year for many including my siblings and I, I cannot help but think of my shelter friends who will be sitting alone on Christmas day without a family of their very own.
Fortunately, countless animal shelters across the country want you to adopt this holiday season and have been encouraging adoptions by running holiday adoption specials. The Los Angeles city shelters have been offering $25 adoptions every weekend during the month of December on all pets including puppies, kittens, purebreds and mixed breeds. And, the Nevada Humane Society in Reno, NV is offering $50 adoptions on most adult dogs and adult cats are free. Is your local shelter doing anything special?
Unfortunately, my local shelter, The Animal Foundation is not running any promotions. With 330 animals currently looking for homes and a staggering kill rate of 61% (in 2012) it just doesn't make any sense. Friends, let's encourage the Animal Foundation to bring more adopters to the shelter this holiday season by asking them to offer low cost adoption fees. Let's clear out the shelter before Christmas so my homeless friends can receive the best Christmas gift of all, a home of their very own.
