This morning, Michelle Obama delivered her final public speech as First Lady of the United States.

Obama spoke at the 2017 School Counselor of the Year Event—which she organized in 2015 as a part of her Reach Higher initiative—in the East Room of the White House, addressing guests, panelists and those honored by the American School Counselor Association.

FLOTUS' remarks stood as an emotional early goodbye, which doubled as a jarring reminder that Obama's eight-year administration really is coming to an end soon. After thanking school counselors from across the country for inspiring students to pursue the best education possible, she left off with a message to young people, urging them to continue to hope. The First Lady was speaking through tears by the end of the address.

AIT Celebrates “Super Girls”
台灣的新世代女生透過英特爾和美國創新中心在週末合辦的「Super Girl女性特訓營」學習了領導技巧，並且進行了許多電腦程式和編碼的學習活動。曾多次獲獎肯定的資深記者陳舲舲和美國在台協會文化官蘇阿麗 (Alys Spensley) 共同代表美國在台協會，歡迎來參加特訓營的年輕學員。陳舲舲鼓勵參加營隊的女孩們想一想自己有什麼獨特的才能，把這次的活動當作一個起點，思考自己未來的目標，看是要投入工程、科學、外交、媒體，或者追尋其他自己所懷抱的夢想。想獲得更多美國創新中心未來的活動訊息，請密切留意美國在台協會 AIT與 American Innovation Center美國創新中心的臉書。#SuperGirls
Taiwanese girls got a chance to learn leadership skills and engage in computing and coding activities at a "Super Girl" workshop co-hosted by the American Innovation Center (AIC) and Intel Corp. this weekend. Award-winning journalist Kathy Chen and Cultural Affairs Officer Alys Spensley represented AIT to welcome the girls. Ms. Chen encouraged the girls to reflect on their unique talents and to use the workshop as a launching point to consider a future in engineering, science, diplomacy, media, or wherever their dreams may take them. Eden Kai (16 years old) won the Grand Champion Overall Winner of the 2015 Brown Bags to Stardom talent competition and was also awarded 1st place Instrumental. Eden made history by becoming the first ever instrumentalist to be awarded the grand champion. He performed his amazing acoustic guitar fingerstyle instrumental song “Beautiful Stars” in the biggest talent competition in Hawaii involving all high schools on April 25, 2015 at the Neal Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. This popular event has been a household word in Hawaii since the 1970’s before American Idol or America’s Got Talent giving students an opportunity for stardom.
Eden joins the legacy of famous stars who got their start at this statewide high school competition like Bruno Mars, Jake Shimabukuro, Tia Carrere, Glenn Medeiros, Yuna Ito and others.
Special thanks to Johnny Kai, executive producer of Brown Bags to Stardom, helping to give kids growing up in Hawaii an opportunity to share their talents and gifts, and give them hope that their dreams of stardom can come true.
Much gratitude goes to Kaiser High School students, families, and faculty for their fantastic support and cheering! All the banners, cheering, and love you gave really means so much! About EDEN KAI:
With millions of fans around the world, Eden Kai has earned his reputation as being a ukulele and guitar virtuoso, a Pop/R&B vocalist, and an accomplished actor. While many were first introduced to Eden when he joined the cast of Netflix and Fuji Television’s Terrace House: Aloha State, the young star’s success had already been years in the making. In addition to working on his own music, Eden has collaborated with some of the world’s top artists and producers, including EXILE and Dream. One of his compositions was used to create “Anuenue,” a hit J-Pop single recorded and released by Dance Earth Party, which landed at #11 on the Oricon Music Charts in Japan.
Eden also recognizes the importance of using his music to help others. He has hosted several ukulele workshops in Honolulu and Japan, been the featured performer at the Waikiki Spam Jam, benefiting the largest non-profit in Hawaii that feeds the needy, and the Hawaii Food and Wine Festival from which proceeds helped local children in the community. Eden has donated proceeds from some of his songs to assist humanitarian causes, including the support of a health center in Haiti and the purchase of educational materials for children in Bangladesh.
