Out with the kids on a sunny Sunday! Daddy is working today but we didn't want to waste the beautiful day, so we went out for lunch, read books at the library and the kids are having fun at water play now before we head to the east to go out for dinner with my parents.
Some friends say I make solo parenting look easy and many people we meet on the streets tend to ask if I am really alone with all three (and whether these kids are all mine). I can assure you it's NOT easy.
I have to handle meltdowns, break up fights, soothe crying kids, nag at them when they don't eat on their own, attend to kids who need to pee or poo in the middle of nowhere and most importantly, remain vigilant every step of the way. Plus, I have to always think about logisitics, for instance bring extra clothes, towels and toys for water play, bring a baby carrier so that the toddler can nap in the pram when she needs to, pack all our library books, plan our route such that it can be reached via the mrt (It's impossible for us to go by bus in this state). With the baby starting on solids, I also need to make sure he gets his porridge/cereal even if we are on the go.
But you know what? The good news is it does get better with practice and as long as you, and your kids, get the hang of it, solo parenting isn't that daunting after all.
