Paro Taktsang, also known as Taktsang Palphug Monastery and Tiger’s Nest Monastery, is a Buddhist temple that sits on the side of a cliff in the Paro Valley of Bhutan. Originally constructed in the late 17th century, the monastery was all but destroyed in a 1998 fire. Its restoration, funded by the Bhutanese government, was completed in 2005.

*~* Ladies In Black *~*
The black fur beauty behind me was one of the local dog of that area. She was walking beside me till the time I left the place. Probably she liked me because we both were wearing black! So we bonded over colour black. 😉
I was impressed by the street dogs of Bhutan. All were healthy, big, fluffy and their furs looked so shiny as if they were well taken care off. I was very happy about that discovery!
Location: About 30 minutes drive from Paro towards Thimphu city, Tamchog Lhakhang sits across the Paro River. The Lhakhang Dzong is a privately owned temple and approached by an iron chain suspension bridge. The Lhakhang Dzong and the bridge were constructed by a 13th century Tibetan saint Thangthong Gyalpo. The Buddhist saint was also a blacksmith and an architect. Of the many iron chain bridges built, there are only few left which are still used. However, the one I was standing was the duplicate one of the original. In one of my previous post, I have shared a picture of the original iron bridge. I will leave the link of that post in the comment.

Travel is a means to escape one’s own life and experience those of others
The most authentic way is to fully embed in the local way of living, including housing, food, and lifestyle. That is the meaning of travel.
In Bhutan, you can experience real farm life, like staying at a farmhouse, eating truly authentic homemade cuisine and taking a comfortable bath after a day of farm work or hiking.
Bhutanese life is just simple and down-to-earth like so.
Speaking of Bhutanese bath, it is not from natural hot springs. These hot baths need to be prepared.
Bhutanese farm-stay is another unique travel experience. It’ll be a pity if you don’t give it a try.

Nowadays, our entertainment mostly comes from electronic devices.
We rely on computers and phones for chats or playing games.
Although our lives seem busy,
there is less face-to-face connection between people.
Bhutan has a special social activity, which is also their national sport, to keep people connected.
In Bhutan, there is a saying that
“one who cannot fire an arrow is not a Bhutanese”
meaning each Bhutanese can play archery.
However, today’s Bhutaneses use bows and arrows not for hunting nor battles.
It is a continuation of the traditional culture, which became a national sport.
It is one of the few Olympic Games that the country participates in.
It is also an important family and social event.
How important is archery to Bhutan?

(National Institute for Zorig Chusum)。
When visiting Bhutan,
in the capital Thimphu, one of the most visited tourist attractions is National Institute for Zorig Chusum, an art and craft school.
The school was founded for developing and preserving the 13 traditional handicraft skills of Bhutan.
You can see how Bhutan not only tries hard to preserve their traditions but also their excellent handcraft skills.
This time we will talk about one of them - “patra”, which means woodcarving.
In a world filled with manufactured goods, handmade wood carvings seem more sincere and warm, which is a good representation of the Bhutanese value.
Because of the professional training
and the scarcity of manufacturing from its eco-friendly policy,
Bhutan still mostly rely on manual work,
with good quality and affordable price.
These small wood carving crafts are great souvenirs when visiting Bhutan!
