Interaksi saya dengan pelbagai pihak di Australia di kalangan masyarakat Islam & profesional Australia banyak memberi perspektif baru.
Mungkin kerana mereka berada di Asia, Australia tak nampak sangat macam negara Barat dari sikap & cara fikir. Lebih senang didekati. Lebih humble (hampir sama dengan Ireland).
Saya pernah ke Parlimen Victoria di Melbourne membincang isu percukaian dua kali kepada produk kewangan Islam secara murabahah. Akhirnya, kerajaan negeri Victoria (Melbourne), berbeza dengan kerajaan negeri New South Wales (Sydney) telah meluluskan perlepasan cukai ini bagi mengelak cukai dua kali.
Perbincangan di kalangan pegawai ofis percukaian & beberapa ahli parlimen mudah sahaja. Sempoi. Hanya di cafe. Apabila data & fakta jelas, terus diambil tindakan. Ini pengalaman kedua saya ke Parlimen luar negara selepas Cape Town.
Oleh kerana ekonomi Australia berasaskan perlombongan, pertanian, penternakan, pelancungan serta pendidikan, jelas sangat kerajaan Australia benar2 menjadikan sektor2 ini anak emas. Semuanya dimudahcarakan. Amat fokus. Bila saya berbincang dengan persatuan industri lembu atau iron ore, yang datang ke mesyuarat adalah semua ekosistem seperti bank, dana pelaburan awam & pensendirian, jabatan ekspot, universiti yang menjalankan kajian, pihak undang2 & juga semestinya pemain utama. Ini jarang berlaku di tempat2 lain. Ianya berlaku di Australia. Semangat bekerja sama sebagai sebuah pasukan untuk negara amat luar biasa. Mereka tidak hidup & bekerja secara terpisah (isolation).
Teori saya secara peribadi: oleh kerana mereka terasing daripada dunia, mereka dekat & intim dalam negara mereka.
Secara tidak sedar, saya sudah mendampingi beberapa rakan baru di Australia dalam bidang politik. Seronok berbincang dengan mereka di cafe2 di Sydney, Melbourne, Adelide & Brisbane tentang cara pandang mereka kepada isu2 politik & ekonomi di rantau Asia Pasifik & juga dunia. Sekolah pemikiran Australia menarik untuk dibaca selalu (disamping kajian2 kertas polisi bermutu tinggi dari Singapura).
Sebuah benua yang cukup unik & jauh. Dikhabarkan penduduk asli di sini berasal dari DNA Melayu.

The bar chart illustrates the habits of buying and drinking two beverages: coffee and tea for urban residents in five cities of Australia in the last 4 weeks.
Overall, in most cities, people preferred drinking coffee or tea in a cafe shop to buying fresh or instant coffee, except Adelaide where drinking instant coffee was a bit more prevalent.
In Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart, the percentages of city dwellers visiting a cafe for coffee or tea in last 4 weeks were highest, making up about 65% each. Residents in Brisbane also liked this habit of drinking coffee and tea most, but its figure was much lower, at just over 55%. Although this habit ranked second in the remaining city - Adelaide, the figure was still high, at merely under 50%.
As for the habit of buying coffee, instant coffee was chosen more often than fresh coffee in all five cities. The data for the former habit in Brisbane, Adelaide and Hobart well exceeded the figures for the latter, with the discrepancy in each city being about 15% or over. However, in Sydney and Melbourne, the differences of the two habits of buying the surveyed beverages were less significant. The percentage of each habit of buying coffee varied around 45% in each of those two cities.
