I haven’t painted with colored pencils for months. Being busy with my newly started YouTube channel is one of the reasons; but what really paralyzes me is that I have been feeling uninspired, unconfident, and lacking creativity. “What’s the point to make my colored pencil work looks realistic if I can just snap a photo?” I thought.

When I used to work digitally, I always stylized my subject matters in order to be more “commercially viable”. Why can’t I do the same with the colored pencil? When I use CP to draw and paint, I can’t help but lost in the details and textures. I do enjoy achieving the lifelikeness with colored pencil. But I also yearn for some whimsy and quirkiness in my work. I am still finding the balance between them.

Today I pick up what I left in February and continue to work on this rose. It feels content to hold the pencils again.
