9 out of 10 times I post a photo of my baby, I would get a DM from a mom asking: “Can you tell me where to buy X for the baby?”
I had (and still recovering from) the mad compulsive baby shopping syndrome myself. (I have 4 white noise machines in my house. Don’t ask why.)
So I understand the urgent feeling to buy.
As moms, we want things to be perfect for our babies. And as moms, we often feel inadequate and anxious and thus, a need to control.
Perfectionism drunk on OCD.
Ouch…
But when I’m high on Lazada with 38 items in my cart, I wish someone would place a hand on my shoulders and gently tell me:
“Honey it’s not those stuff your baby needs. It’s a healthy, calm and happy you.”
So instead of buying another baby piano that “guarantees to stimulate the baby’s musical brain juice and turn your baby into diaper wearing freak’in Mozart”
I’ll use that money to get a massage; or an hour or so of quality childcare so I can take a nap; or not spend that money at all, put the phone down to breath and drink a cup of chamomile tea while it’s still warm.
If you find a piece of yourself in my story, I see you.
Be as generous to you as you are to your child.
The love and care you give to you will radiate back to your child ten-fold.
You matter.
