I officially said goodbye to our Golf Club membership today. Azmi doesn’t play golf anymore and I reckon my swings are better put to use whipping new recipes on Moe my Thermomix.
When I found out unexpectedly, that I was carrying Ilon in 2019, I knew I needed to reassess our lives.
Truth be told? We were happy with just two children we had between the both of us, but 10 years to our marriage, God blessed us with three more and while I thank God for HIS blessings, Ilon’s conception was a shocker and a medical decision we had to make quickly, as it was too risky for my well being to carry him full term.
Admittedly, finances was also part of our dilemma - having another young family member would mean an upgrade to a bigger car as two baby seats and two preteen girls would not be sufficient space in the car we were driving.
Plus, from past experience, being pregnant seemed to pose a hindrance to my job too - hence me keeping the pregnancy (again) away from public knowledge. So I knew I could “push” myself all the way till my surgery and then be quiet for a month or so to heal.
Quiet means = no income?
Scary thought for a freelancer like me.
But I have my mother’s grit.
The two weeks spent considering the options and lots of time on the mat gave me clarity in keeping the 7th week embryo growing in me. I would let God decide the fate of our well-being but in the meantime , what I CAN control, I would do all in my best capacity to ensure the best for baby, family and me - which includes restructuring our finances and letting go of my car, reorganise our insurance coverage and ... selling off our memberships like our Golf Club.
So we did just that - selling off what we could, restructuring our finances , our lives ... our mindset.
Then the looming MCO / pandemic happened.
No one wanted to buy the club membership because everyone was concerned about their financial state as COVID-19 did not just take away lives, but livelihoods too.
Alhamdullilah today we have made the transfer to its new owner. I’m going to miss the club facilities (the japanese restaurant is so sedap and cheap!) but at least? We still have each other.
Thanks for the memories KGNS.

Recently I got a thermomix and omg all I can say it that it totally deserves all the raving reviews it has! 😱
⠀
It’s literally a kitchen robot and I really feel that if you like to cook/bake, this nifty machine will change your life forever!
⠀
There are a few things I like best about Thermomix:
⠀
1) it is many machines all in one. It blends, kneads, boils, stir fries, weighs, cooks your food to the exact temperature you want, is a recipe bank, steams, can cook multiple dishes at once - it even kinda cleans itself!! My kitchen top was so cluttered but I removed my blender, mixer and rice cooker. Best!
⠀
2) it takes all the guesswork out of cooking; even complete novices can be master chefs! Within Thermomix are thousands of tested recipes. In all likelihood whatever you want to eat you can find it in there. Get the ingredients, turn on Thermomix and follow their instructions. All you have to do is dump things in and press buttons - the timing and temperature etc are all set for you so you CANNOT go wrong! 😏 I’ve been able to cook the most complicated dishes I never thought was possible!
⠀
3) it makes cooking so CLEAN. No more oily stoves as the cooking is all contained within the Thermomix! 🤩 You no longer have to use measuring cups, spatulas, weighing scales and less chopping boards too it can chop and prepare your garlic/onions for you! Save time cleaning!
⠀
4) it is so PRECISE. Steep tea at 70 degrees. Cook the perfect onsen egg every single time. Sou vide your steaks. Cook veggies at low temps so they keep their nutrition. Done ✅
⠀
That being said the Thermomix cannot deep fry, air fry or oven bake (it still can help prep by kneading). But everything else it does an amazing job of!
⠀
If you are interested, a Thermomix is going for $2,398! It isn’t cheap but considering it’s so many machines in one and the time/hassle it saves you I think it’s super worth it! This isn’t an ad by Thermomix but my friend’s aunt is a rep for them so if you are interested please WhatsApp her at -+6592962100, or see her fb at https://www.facebook.com/mavis.ong1 She will do a live demo for you so you can see it in action before deciding! No obligations.

Pulled Pork in Various Arrangements. Easy with a pressure cooker. When block meat is cheap, this is the way to go!
I stewed a block of pork with vegetables to make pulled pork that can be broken up into small pieces. You can use it in a variety of ways, such as on bread, over rice, or with pasta.
This time, I will introduce avocado hamburger, which is a typical American dish, and Japanese egg on rice.
My pressure cooker is getting old, so I didn't want to show you as much as possible, so it's hard to see the pot in the editing.
*Recipe* (from 500g of meat you can make 300g of pulled pork)
1.Rub 500g of pork shoulder or thigh block with salt, pepper and grated garlic.
2.Put 125g of sliced onion, 1/2 carrot (50-75 g) and 300 ml of water in a pot.
3.Add the meat from (1).
4.Cover with a lid and heat. When pressure builds up, reduce heat to low and cook for 50 minutes.
5.After heating, turn off the heat and let the pressure drop naturally.
6.Take out the meat and chop it into small pieces.
7.Make the sauce with the remaining vegetables and broth. Break into small pieces, add 35g of ketchup, 35g of sauce, and 5g of soy sauce, and simmer over medium heat for 13 minutes.
8.Done. Use 100g of meat from (6) and 75g of sauce from (7). It's also delicious with grated cheese and black pepper. If necessary, add additional sauce.
