本週第一波 #梅雨鋒面 報到，正式宣告揭開今年汛期的序幕，本週的英語小教室就要來介紹汛期的相關單字。
汛期的英文用到淹水flood這個單字，稱之為flood season，而防汛就是為汛期做好準備，所以叫做preparation for flood season.
市府團隊不只防疫要超前部署(take proactive action)，跟市民生活息息相關的事更是不能馬虎。團隊巡檢了市內82座抽水站 (pumping station)，抽水幫浦就是由pump音譯而來，此外，進行滯洪池 (flood detention pond)降低水位及放空，detention在這裡是指暫時扣留，滯洪池的功能就是暫時儲存過多的洪水，再視下游狀況調節排出。順道一提，前陣子很紅的國片"返校"的英文也叫detention，因為這個字的另一個意思就是留校察看。團隊還如火如荼地進行了溝渠(ditch)及箱涵(box culvert)的清淤工程(dredging project)，自主社區防災維運、工程防汛應變計畫演練等等，畢竟減災、防災重於救災，市民的生命安全、財產永遠是最優先的考量。
