We are so glad to have attended the screening of "Penguins", a nature feature film by Disneynature, at the #Ecosperity Film Fest yesterday - 5 June - which also happens to be World Environment Day.
This 76-min film, narrated by Ed Helms, tells the story of an Adélie penguin named Steve who joins millions of fellow males in the icy Antarctic spring on a quest to build a nest, find a life partner and start a family. Along the way, he meets obstacles such as neighbours stealing stones from his nest, finding love, becoming a dad for the first time, needing to buff up his two chicks before winter arrives, and staying safe from predators like killer whales and leopard seals.
The best part was watching the behind-the-scene footage and the Q&A session with producer Roy Conli and cinematographer Sophie Darlington. They answered some of the audience's burning questions and shared with us how the crew travelled a long way to Antartica, how 23 cameramen were involved, how they filmed over three seasons, how they managed to get up close with the penguins, how they had to endure the unbearable weather and how over 450 hours of footage was filmed just to make this film.
It was a fascinating and great learning experience for these nature lovers of mine who discovered so much more about these adorable penguins and are reminded to do their part to build a better, more sustainable world for the animals.
Thanks for having us Temasek and Ecosperity and for keeping up with this awesome Ecosperity intiative - an idea that growth and development go hand in hand with an abiding respect and commitment for a clean and sustainable environment.
