Kinabatangan River
We were so lucky to see these endangered Borneo Pygmy Elephants in the wild. They are the smallest Elephant species in the world. Only around 1500-2000 are left in the wild, all in the north east of Borneo, often near to the Kinabatangan River. They are threatened by logging, palm plantations, hunting snares and poachers. We were lucky to see a herd of about 40. They even walked through our camp one night. So beautiful!
We stayed at Bilit Rainforest Lodge about a 2 hour drive from Sandakan. You then head off deeper into the rainforest on a boat safari each day.

Woke up to the news that out of 52 places @nytimes published to visit in 2020, Malaysia is on two spots and one of them is Sabah. We went to Sabah last year and loved every minute.
So it's perfect timing to announce I will be cooking in Sukau Rainforest Lodge this summer celebrating their 25th Anniversary. I'm.trembling with excitement to be going back to Sabah with my family this summer.
Perched on the bank of the Kinabatangan River, this lodge is the first lodge built based on ecotourism principles. It is one of few @natgeo Unique Lodges of the World. I am so humbled to be ask to cook in this special place this August. Last year I cooked on board the one and only @easternoriental, this year here, I'm truly humbled. We will be putting a special itinerary for guests who wants to visit this special place. Fancy dining and walking amongst hornbills and orang utans in their natural habitat? Crusing along the river on electric boats while watching the pygmy elephants? Then sumptuous dinner and cookery classes focusing on Malaysian Rainforest Cuisine!
