Build Strong Spiritual Muscles

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” (James‬ ‭1:2-4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

I cringe sometimes when people say, “God is testing you” to someone who is facing a difficult time.

Did you know that our God is omniscient? He knows everything in the past, present, and future. Why would He need to test you to see if you have faith or not? He already knows the eventual result before you even do it.

The “testing of your faith” refers to you using faith in a real-life scenario. It is an opportunity to put to practice what you have learned in God’s word.

After testing your faith, what you know will no longer be theory, but a life experience.

It is like working out in the gym. The testing of your strength produces stronger muscles. Similarly, the testing of your faith produces patience (strong ‘spiritual muscles’).

You cannot skip the working out phase and end up toned and muscular like a bodybuilder. You have to go through the process of testing your strength. Oftentimes, you will be pushed to your physical limits so that the muscles can be challenged and grow.

If you want to end up as someone who is spiritually strong—effortlessly applying Gospel truths in life and not easily shaken by trials and tribulations, you have to go through the process of testing your faith.

God will allow you to be in situations where you have to overcome a problem through having faith in Him. Sometimes, it will seem like too much to handle. It is like lifting a heavier set of dumbbells that you have never tried before.

Thankfully, we have a personal trainer who is always with us to help us work our spiritual muscles. The Holy Spirit is our Helper who guides us through the process of developing patience, so that we may be perfect and complete in our soul and body through the renewal of our minds.

When you encounter a situation where you feel pushed to your limit, see it as an exercise that your personal trainer tailor-made to build you up. Instead of shrinking from the challenge in fear, trust Him and go through that workout. With every Scripture, prayer, stepping out in faith, you will emerge stronger and the results will be visible to all!

How to Wait Effectively

“I wait [patiently] for the LORD, my soul [expectantly] waits, And in His word do I hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen for the morning; More than the watchmen for the morning.” (Psalms‬ ‭130:5-6‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Waiting for the Lord is not a passive activity. It may sound like doing nothing in the natural, but waiting is actually being watchful, actively expecting your breakthrough at any moment.

This is the kind of effective, active faith that receives breakthroughs.

The watchmen on the city walls have to be attentive at all times, peering into the horizon for any signs of activity.
Imagine being more attentive and expectant than these watchmen.

When you pray, expect to see the fulfillment of your prayers swiftly because you believe God is so good to you and that He’s urgently wanting to deliver you from your troubles the moment you call on Him in faith.

“Won’t God avenge his chosen ones, who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them? I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”” (Luke‬ ‭18:7-8‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Faith is not about saying, “If it’s God’s will, He will give it to me eventually. If not, then it’s okay.”
That kind of spiritual dullness cannot receive anything from the Lord.
It’s like trying to fight an enemy with a rusty blade.

“But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed. For let that man not think that he will receive anything from the Lord. He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” (James‬ ‭1:6-8‬ ‭WEB)

God’s word is not ambiguous and His will is not a secret.
It is clearly written that God wants you to prosper in all things and be healthy. He wants you victorious, delivered from troubles, walking in His supernatural power and more.

Whatever He has promised in His written word, you can confidently expect it to happen when you ask for it.
Perhaps you have been hurt in the past when your prayers didn’t seem to come to pass.
If you don’t dare to trust God again in fear of being disappointed, I would like to encourage you to trust Him again.

“For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed.”” (Romans‬ ‭10:11‬ ‭WEB)

His word declares that none who trust Him will be disappointed.
Believe that what was allowed to happen in the past was to protect you from something worse, and that it was already made less severe because you prayed.

There’s so many things we don’t know about happening in the unseen spiritual realm whereby angels and demons go about their activities—we have to trust that prayer works and that good things happen because we pray.

If you want a breakthrough in your life—whatever it is, let your faith arise as you meditate on His goodness, love and grace towards you.
Then as you speak forth what you believe, it’ll be like swinging a sharp blade to cut the cords of wickedness in your life, freeing you from the enemy’s bondage!
