日常的な「パニクる」 を表す英語での言い方
=================================
日本語でよく「パニックになる」や「パニクっている」という言い方をしますが、そのままカタカナ英語を訳して「I am panic」は間違った言い方になるので気をつけましょう。今日はのコラムでは「Panic」の言葉を使わず、日常的に使われている表現方法をご紹介します。

Freak out
→「パニクる/ あたふたする/ ビビる」

日常会話でパニック状態を表す自然な英語は「Freak out」になります。恐怖、不安、驚きなどで混乱したり慌てたりする時に使われます。状況によりビクビクすることも表します。「Panic」を使うこともありますが、その場合はかなり深刻でシリアスなパニック状態を表すことになるので、日常的な場面ではほとんど使われません。
✔「パニックになりました」と言う場合は「I freaked out」。
✔まさに今パニック状態と言う場合は「Be 動詞」を使い「I am freaking out」。
✔「～（が原因）でパニクった」と言う場合は「I freaked out because _____」「_____ freaked me out」
＜例文＞
〜会話例１〜
A: What’s wrong with him? Is he OK?
（彼どうしたの？大丈夫？）
B：He’s freaking out because he lost his passport.
（パスポートをなくしたからパニクってるみたい。）
〜会話例２〜
A: Why are you freaking out?
（何であたふたしているの？）
B：I have to give a presentation in English in 10 minutes.
（10分後に英語でプレゼンをしないといけないからです。）
〜会話例３〜
A: What is that?
（何あれ？）
B：It’s just a spider.
（クモだよ。）
A: Oh my god, it freaked me out.
（うわぁ、ビビった～！）

He was an officer. But they didn’t get through me. Only one person attempted to get through me at that time, and he met the floor. He met the floor. Finally, officers with armored gear responded and held that area...
So I run up the stairwell. There’s people freaking everywhere. They saw I came from an area that wasn’t occupied by terrorists. So they tried to go down the steps. I said, “No, you’re not going down there.” And I’m exhausted. They’re saying, “Trump is our rightful president. Nobody voted for Joe Biden.” I needed to catch my breath. So I said, “I voted for Joe Biden. What? My vote doesn’t matter?” A woman responded, “This [slur] voted for Joe Biden!” Everybody that was there started joining in. “Hey, [slur]!” It was over 20 people who said it...
People fought their asses off. Eugene was great. He did his job. He did it heroically, literally, in the face of danger. So many people did that that day. So many freaking people. We’ve got officers who suffered concussions and got attacked. So many people fought so bravely. There were so many Eugene Goodmans that day. Everybody I saw fought their asses off. And they’re heroes."
