Sustainability is at the forefront of our planning. Our new estates reflect this. This Bloomberg article takes a look at how the upcoming Tengah estate will be built from the ground up to be as green as possible.

Tengah will use a district cooling system, like the one in the Marina Bay Financial District (which I posted about earlier this year: https://go.gov.sg/ozepuu). Solar-powered cooling units will be installed on rooftops, producing chilled water running through a network of pipes. This can save up to 30% of energy and reduce our carbon footprint.

The Housing & Development Board also used 3D environmental modelling software to simulate wind, temperature and sunlight conditions, calculate how they may affect buildings in the estate, and reduce the heat load on buildings.

Keeping Singapore sustainable is something that we must get right. We have no second chance. To make Singapore a home for future generations, we must do all we can to preserve it. – LHL

【自給自足的綠色建築】

具可持續性，能改善地球環境的綠色建築，可說是當前世界城市發展最急切的需要之一。2010年落成，位於澳洲的Pixel大樓便是其中一楝為人津津樂道的典範例子。它在美國綠建築協會所推動的領先能源與環境設計 (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design，LEED) 評級系統中，獲得全球最高的評分105分，以及澳洲的Green Star環保評分機制中取得6星評級，是機制中最高的級別。

Pixel大樓是澳洲第一幢「碳中和」建築，即達到零碳排放的目標。

它具有收集雨水並過濾循環的功能，過濾後的雨水可用來灌溉屋頂的植物；形狀奇特的七彩遮陽葉片經過精心設計，防止太陽的強光和高溫直射大樓外牆，同時又可以將大量日光引進辦公室內；而智能窗戶在夜間能自動敞開，讓清新空氣流入，排走室內熱力，幫助降溫；而且，建築大樓的電力均由大廈的風力與太陽能裝置提供。這樣的設計，使它成為一座能源和水資源都可自給自足的生態建築。

面對全球暖化與環境污染，這樣別出心裁的設計，肯定是當前建築發展的重要方向。

這座長達33公尺半沉沒於北海的建築物其實是歐洲第一間海底餐廳「Under」。位於挪威南端的里訥斯訥斯地區，這座獨特且創新的結構建築，是由挪威建築事務所「Snøhetta」所設計的。

The 111-foot-long building half-sunken in the North Sea is actually Europe’s first underwater restaurant. Located in the region of Lindesnes, on the southern tip of Norway on the North Sea, Under, which was designed by Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta, is a unique and incredibly innovative structure.

「Under」不僅可以容納40名飢餓的客人，更可以做為海洋生物研究的中心。

Under will not only accommodate up to 40 hungry guests, but will also function as a research center for marine life

沿著樓梯進入位於海平面下方的餐廳，燈光將散發出類似海水的藍綠色光線以及大型窗戶外可以欣賞的海洋裡頭的野生環境。

Down the stairs into the dining room and below the ocean’s surface, the light has a green and blue aquatic quality, and the large window offers a view of the sea and its wildlife.

至於食物，菜單基本上都採用當地採購的產品和永續經營下捕捉的野生動物。你可以在線上進行預約，但預約將會不斷湧入，因此你必須及早計畫以防萬一。

As for the food, the menu is based on locally sourced produce and sustainable wildlife capture. You can reserve a table online, but bookings are flooding in and you’ll have to plan pretty far in advance.
