青山にあるホンダ社屋のプレスルームの展示が変わりました。1974年型エルシノアCR125Mです。タンクはアルミ製で初期型はバフがげのクリア塗装だっというからかなり凝っています。モトクロッサーなのにファッション性が高いのはペットネームの採用も理由だと思いまが、これはずっと疑問でした。それがパネルの説明文を読んでようやく納得できました。
以下説明文です(長文です)。
初の市販モトクロッサー“エルシノア”
1973 Honda Elsiore CR125M
1950年のドリームD型以来となる2ストロークを採用した、ワークスモトクロッサーRC125MとRC250M。それをベースに生まれた、市販モトクロッサーのエルシノアCR125M。クロモリフレームをはじめとする軽量パーツを多用し、さらに燃料タンクはアルミの輝きが映えるようバフ掛け+クリア塗装のみとするなど、視覚的にも軽快さを演出していた。
当初「4ストのホンダ」のイメージを崩さないようあえて社名を外していたが、本田宗一郎の「なぜHONDAを入れないんだ!」という一言で急ぎマークをつくり輸出仕様に採用。この時生まれたものが、現在も使われている羽根マーク(羽根+HONDA)の原型となった。
