Banting Traditional Noodles is something I get when I’m craving for comfort food, or some piping hot soup on a rainy day. They make almost everything by hand themselves! This means the chillis, noodles, fried shallots and ikan bilis are all done or fried by them right at the stall.
Their specialty is the Hot & Spicy Handmade Noodles, a dry KL-style pan mee that exploded in popularity recently. Each bowl is topped with an egg, fried fish bean curd, meatballs, anchovies, braised minced meat, and of course, the special chilli. The ratio of sauce to noodle was perfect, and each strand was coated with the wonderful sweet and spicy goodness.

“Mama, that noodle is the best noodle I’ve ever had!”, and that’s why I order again.☺️
Big boy eats like he’s been starving for one month, finishes one whole bowl of WANTAN noodles o his own, and stops everyone from eating side dishes (fried WANTAN and nan ru fried meat), he says “I’ll take the side dishes as my snack ya!” Then rushes back to room for online class.
The portion is indeed really big, my hubby and baby Malcolm share one bowl of WANTAN noodles actually, and they’re full😂
Also, the soup which comes with noodles is pork bone soup, beautiful milky and tasty flavor.
Oh, noodles I order for myself is spicy hell hot panmee, I have to say, the spicy taste from Shi Fu noodle house is my all time favorite👍
Order online and taste it!

Jia Xiang is an old-school mee siam and lontong stall helmed by a mother-and-son duo in Redhill Food Centre.
The bowl of mee siam was steaming hot and topped with tau kwa, tau pok, limes, chives, beansprouts, fried croutons, a whole hard-boiled egg and sambal belacan chilli. Talk about hearty! The tangy and spicy tamarind broth was an absolute delight to slurp up with the noodles.
Rich with a hit of spice, the coconut milk curry used for the lontong was very fragrant and not at all thick. This made it easier for the stir-fried vegetables and tau kwa to soak up the broth. Top it off with belacan and you’re golden.
With every bite and slurp, you can taste the amount of heart and soul Mdm Tan and her son put into every dish they send out. No-frills with simple ingredients, this is indeed hawker food at its finest.

For this episode, we headed to TamJai SamGor Mixian to demolish a MASSIVE 6KG Spicy Mala Noodles Bowl! TamJai SamGor serves authentic mixian (rice noodles) and is located at Bedok Mall, Chinatown Point and Vivocity. A chain originating from Hong Kong and even awarded Bib Gourmand in Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau, TamJai SamGor offers customisable mixian and Guo Qiao with 16 toppings in it. You get to choose your soup base - bestsellers being the Ma La Soup and the Wu La (charred pepper) Soup.
For my challenge, I opted for the Wu La Soup with 1/10 Mild and loaded it up with most of their toppings such as pork, chicken, fishballs, pork liver, pork belly, tofu puffs, beancurd skin, beef, lettuce and beansprouts. The base was a hefty 5 servings of rice noodles and the entire bowl was filled with Wu La Soup. Note that there are 10 levels of spiciness you can choose for your soup.
The broth was reminiscent of a Bak Kut Teh broth crossed with a Thai Boat Noodles broth. It was rich and peppery. The noodles were exceptional, firm, bouncy and still giving bite even after sitting in the broth for a long time. They soaked up the broth wonderfully. For the toppings, I especially enjoyed the pork belly, which were filled with flavour from the fattiness and had some chewiness to them, and the cuttlefish balls, which were firm and bouncy with a good amount of meat in them. Apart from the toppings shared in the video, I have also shortlisted pig stomach, bamboo fungus and tail-on shrimp as my pick to be sold in TamJai SamGor.
It started raining just as filming began, which made me realise that Guo Qiao is perfect for a such a day, warm and comforting while its cold and rainy outside. Each Guo Qiao also comes with minced pork and pickled vegetables. Note that the pork is on the sweet side which actually works well to cool the heat from the soup.
I completed this challenge in 28 minutes, a good start after my food poisoning incident. It was an enjoyable challenge, basically a hearty, warming bowl of soup that reminds you of home. TamJai SamGor also offers sides dishes and I tried their TuFei Chicken Mid-Wings, which were tender and heavily spiced with a cumin mixture. Do head down to TamJai SamGor to enjoy a wholesome bowl of noodle soup, especially on a rainy day!

For this episode, we headed down to Café Lodge at YWCA Fort Canning to tackle an UNDEFEATED 4.5KG Prawn Noodle Challenge! Café Lodge offers 2 upsized traditional Singaporean dishes, Prawn Noodles and Nasi Lemak, with timed challenges. Completing a challenge in under 30 minutes means that the dish is free and you get to bring home a souvenir. For my challenge, I opted for the Mega Prawn Noodles. At the time of filming, no one had yet to complete this challenge.
Showing they meant business, they served the Mega Prawn Noodles in the exact same giant bowl I have for challenges. The bowl came with generous portions of yellow egg noodles, pork ribs, pig skin, pig intestine, vegetables and prawns, including one humongous piece. Topped up with piping hot broth, it was a formidable 4.5KG of food.
Flavour-wise, it was an above average bowl of prawn noodles. The shrimps were plump and succulent, and the giant one was certainly special. The intestines were a bit on the chewy side, but decent tasting enough. The broth was deeply layered with notes of aromatics, prawn and pork bits used in the brewing process. The chilli in soya sauce on the side added a welcomed spicy and salty kick whenever used.
As a regular-sized bowl of prawn noodles, it would be something to enjoy, but as a challenge it was rather difficult. The shrimp added a layer of delay due to the peeling needed while the intestines took very long to chomp through considering the time limit. The broth was also very good at retaining heat, keeping everything very hot, slowing me down considerably. In the end, I managed to complete it in 22 minutes, becoming to first person to complete this challenge.
YWCA is a welfare organisation with a focus on women and children. As a part of me completing this challenge, they gave away 5 Mega meals to 5 families in need. Profits from their restaurant, Café Lodge, and other enterprises are funnelled into programs that give back to the community. Café Lodge also offers a host of other dishes with a focus on Singaporean cuisine. Do visit Café Lodge to attempt this Mega challenge!
