What is the best way to learn English?
This is probably one of the most common questions we get on Facebook. The page provides free learning resources to about 50K English teachers and learners, so we receive this question on a daily basis. The question shows that learners are either unclear about their own learning goals or simply overwhelmed by the vast amount of information on the web. Here are some suggestions:
★★★★★★★★★★★★
What do you want to achieve?
Rather than asking what the best way to learn English is, ask yourself what you want to achieve with English? Do you want to actively participate in daily conversations or publish your thesis in English? Perhaps you would like to study abroad as a graduate student? What are your goals? Having a clear set of goals and achieving them can provide you with sustained motivation, even though your goals might change down the road.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Consider external factors
Remember, external factors can affect your learning. How much time do you have every day? Do you have access to a teacher? Do you have to pass the TOEFL or IELTS in three months? Can you set aside time every day for continuous learning?
If I were learning Spanish and I had all the time in the world, I would just find some materials online, immerse myself in the language, and practice as much as possible with Spanish speakers. However, everyone's situation is different.
Most of the problems listed above can be overcome, especially with online resources, but you still need to be realistic in setting your goals. For example, it would be immensely difficult for most to commit to studying English three hours a day because of work and family obligations. The more realistic your goals are, the more likely you are to accomplish them.

Resources
Refer to your previous answers (goals and external factors). If your goal is to speak fluently, you might want to practice in a live classroom. However, do you have the time and financial means to do so?
Online classes might be a better alternative, but you might find the format dull, causing you to quickly lose motivation. These are all factors you must consider when searching for resources.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Teachers and practice partners
Learning materials (In and out of the classroom)
Assessments and Feedback
As for learning materials, it depends on your current level and once again, your goal. You can find a suitable starting point by taking a language assessment and asking a teacher for advice. The main point is to find resources that provide comprehensible input, information that you can understand. You want to pick materials that you can MOSTLY understand so that you can focus on key features. If you pick materials that are far beyond your current abilities (e.g. a beginning Spanish learner using doctoral dissertations to learn Spanish), you might have difficulty focusing on anything and may soon give up on your studies.
Tons of free resources can be found online, but not all of them will help you accomplish your goals. For example, it would be unwise to practice speaking by only reading aloud words in a free online dictionary. You need an experienced teacher to help you find suitable materials. You can also ask your classmates and do research on your own.

https://youtu.be/NSkVxKkdrXo
Teachers
How to find the right teacher is another common question. What qualities should the “perfect” teacher possess? Do you mean a person who is responsive to all your questions? A person who is a trained and licensed educator? Or, perhaps a person who is there to be your mentor or friend? Your peers and classmates can also be effective teachers. Ask them for advice and practice with them.
★★★★★★★★★★★★

Setting Goals
You need to have a clear overall goal and smaller objectives to meet. Once you have them down, talk to a school teacher or a trained professional to help you create a study plan.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
Steps to take:
Know what you want to achieve.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Take a suitable language assessment (or ask a teacher) to find your starting point.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Find a teacher who can help you accomplish your language learning goals.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Create a realistic and sustainable study plan with a teacher.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Usually, your teachers will provide you with learning materials, but you can still find additional materials by asking your peers and doing research.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Study and practice with a partner or study group.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Take periodic assessments to monitor your progress.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Adjust your study plan if you do not show any progress after a couple of months. Always discuss your problems with a teacher.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Take part in your own education. Do not expect others to do everything for you.
★★★★★★★★★★★★

LEARNING NEVER ENDS
(English writing below)

In the darkest times of my life, Shifu has always been the beacon of light for me. I never thought that one day, I too can illuminate Shifu's life. 😂
Before moving home recently, I managed to invite Shifu for a Feng Shui audit of my home.
There were no lights installed yet but because we were rushing to move in before Qing Ming, Shifu agreed to do the audit in the "moonlight". It was his first time seeing Feng Shui in such circumstances. Took him almost 3 hours. Honestly speaking, it was really tiring for the eyes. #Shifuissopro
The Husband asked, "You could have done the audit yourself. Why did you still ask Shifu to do it for you?"
Silly question.
As I am improving, Shifu isn't idling either. He too is advancing by leaps and bounds.
No one Feng Shui audit is exactly identical. Because the formation of every house unit varies, every family member has different Bazi, the problems faced and the aspirations they have are also not the same.
Hence, a responsible Feng Shui practitioner must have a thousand remedies een his knowledge bank to truly help sentient beings and not just walk the world with just a few solutions. The latter will bring more trouble to people.
As Shifu audits my home Feng Shui, it is also the best one for me to revise what I know and learn new techniques. Only a fool that does not wish to progress will give up the opportunity to learn.
I do not take advantage of Shifu. The ang pow we give him is according to his prevailing rates.
This is an investment. The value and reward in the help that Shifu gave me and to any one of his client far exceed the monetary amount in the red packet. #sureearnback
Some people say,
“Ji Qian, don’t mention your Shifu in your Facebook!”
“Other masters also do not say who their Teachers are!”
“This way, people will think that you are really something.”
Do I look like a slave to riches and fame to you?
What others do is their personal choice. I have no interest to follow the herd.
If a person goes seek my Shifu, and Shifu is willing to meet him/her, I am genuinely happy for the person because I know full well how great Shifu’s abilities are.
We are here to serve the sentient beings and not to fight with each other. When we continuously improve, it is the good fortune of sentient beings.
Don’t worry. Humans will never run out of problems to solve, hence I will never be put out of job. 😄
Moreover, I can’t be taking on all the jobs by myself. That will spell a premature death for this Feng Shui practitioner.
In our line of work, clients move around like flowing water. But there is only one Shifu.
I will never be that kind of ingrate disciple.

MY JOURNEY OF MASTERING METAPHYSICS (I)
QUESTION: Is it easy to learn to be a Chinese Metaphysics practitioner?
MY ANSWER: That depends on what caliber of Feng Shui Master you aspire to be.
With the Internet, it's easy to learn anything. But the trade secrets will never be found online but from an accomplished Master.
That also means it is an awful idea to figure out your Bazi and Feng Shui through online reading all on your own.
Learning is easy, mastery is another issue.
How far are you willing to go to earn your credentials?
I first wrote this post last March. I added more content this time, so here's a glimpse at how I began my journey into this fascinating and magical world of Chinese Metaphysics.
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Ten years is a long time to be learning anything.
I read that in the internet marketing world, it takes only 6 months of total immersion in your chosen niche to make yourself an expert and gain authority.
I had spent a decade. Learning Buddhism and Chinese Metaphysics.
Shifu gave me a name for my practice in 2009. I was reluctant. I don't think I am 'there' yet.
Shifu had high hopes for me. I was to be his second disciple, out of the fifteen he had, whom he felt is qualified to practice.
I half-heartedly registered the domain in 2011 and let it expired after a year.
After years of merry-go-round around bright shiny objects, last month, I bought the domain again, got the hosting and installed the Wordpress theme.
The next logical step would be to write the About Me page.
But I got stuck for months. Every imaginable material that teaches how to write a snazzy About Me, I probably have it somewhere in my laptop. Yet my brain throws up a blank screen, every time I use the search function. I could not even hand up the three articles that I promised Tavia. Even this post took me a week to write.
What a cruel joke for my brain to play on me. Perhaps all it will take is some random FB posts, for my brain to rewire its circuitry.
I was a very poor teenager student. I lived in a one-room flat for a decade. My family struggled to make ends meet. So I had this fancy ambition of making it big in life. Don't know how big but I was convinced I would be somebody who can give my family a better life.
Then one day, my parents got a Feng Shui master in to audit our home. Our home had gained a notoriety of having bad Feng Shui. Throughout the audit, I hovered around my parents, listening to every word the Master had to say.
What is this strange thing that promises to change our lives for the better? It sounded so magical. How does it work? If it is so powerful and effective, why are there people still suffering? Why can't it help everybody? Then nobody has to be in poverty!
My parents did not know how to answer my 101 whys.
The Encyclopedia Brown in me was determined to find out.
I maxed out my library card to borrow eight books, every weekend I was at the library. I poured over books on Feng Shui, Bazi and divination. This went on for a good 4-5 years.
The new-found ancient knowledge fascinated me. If this has the immense potential t o improve my family's and my life, I am going to learn it well.
Fast forward to my working life, I was delighted when I had saved enough to afford the courses conducted in Malaysia. But the thought of travelling alone to Kuala Lumpur and staying there for a week unnerved me. Ironic, when I fly for a living.
I was mulling over Lilian Too from Malaysia, Master Li Kuiming from Hong Kong and...
While scouring the net for alternatives, I found Master Raymond Lo, a professional Hong Kong practitioner who would be in town to run a Four Pillars of Destiny course.
I had never heard of him before, but he had a very credible profile. And within a month, I found myself sitting in a seminar room of 30 odd students, listening attentively to Master Raymond Lo. At 24, I was probably the youngest student there. My classmates flew in from all over South East Asia. Many of them were graduates from courses by other Masters like Joey Yap and Lilian Too etc, and a few of them were practising on a small scale.
The middle-aged lady, Sally, who sat beside me was from KL. She told me she had spent almost Ringgit $76K in her years of learning Chinese Metaphysics, yet she still felt ill-equipped to read a Bazi very thoroughly.
Such passion and dedication to learning. I was so inspired.
I bought my first Luo Pan (Chinese compass), tons of (expensive) books and wrote so many notes, that my right hand cramped.
It was weird to see English characters on a Luo Pan, but I guess it facilitated usability for the international students.
I had this tinge of sadness when there were more non-Chinese students than Chinese ones. Not that I think such wisdom should only be taught to the Chinese though.
I was also that irritating student who asked the most number of questions in class, holding back everyone from their breaks. I started understanding the world with a whole new perspective.
It was INTENSE.
I did not stop at learning only Bazi. I lapped up the I-ching divination and Feng Shui courses. I threw down thousands and thousands of dollars to learn it well. It wasn't easy to switch my flights around so that I can have that many consecutive off days in Singapore, but by a stroke of luck, everything fell into place.
I must have been so hungry for knowledge that the Universe had to grant me my wishes.
With my new-found amateurish divination skills, I tried my hand at predicting soccer results for the boyfriend-now-husband and had some small success.
(Bad bad thing to do, and I eventually learnt a lesson the hard way.)
Then, I got into my first food business and all those long hours of learning got thrown to the wind.
When my business closed after a brief three months, I remembered this forgotten interest of mine.
One fine day, I called Master Dai Hu, while waiting for the train at Jurong East station. He came recommended by the Husband's colleague and I was told that he was looking for a disciple.
What a dumb idea of mine to call someone important for the first time, at a busy and noisy station platform.
In that phone call, Shifu told me how my Chinese name wasn't favourable and that I should change it.
I had, honestly speaking, never bought into the Chinese name thingy. I told Shifu that I liked my name as it only had one Chinese character instead of the usual two.
That was despite him telling me that my name boded of hospitalisation and operations in my upper body before I hit 20 years old and poor inter-personal relationships.
Shifu was amazingly accurate, even though he didn't have my Bazi but just my name.
In the course of five years, I had landed in hospital twice and underwent two eye operations on separate occasions.
I was always the odd one out during schooling days. I didn't fit in anywhere much.
During my SQ training days, I was also the one who didn't have a lunch buddy and in my flying years, I was once bullied badly by a senior crew for a period of time. So badly that even our flight supervisor noticed and held a team meeting during our stay in LA, just to address this bullying issue.
Poor inter-personal luck also affected my entrepreneurial efforts. My first business failure led to a legal tussle between the landlord and a few of us tenants.
I learnt early in life that blind diligence does not mean I will succeed. Fat hope if I think my customers will acknowledge my hard work sooner or later and buy from me. Strong sales numbers will not last from empathy.
Yet despite the truth in what Shifu said, I rejected firmly his good intentions twice in the phone call. I assumed he was trying to do sales.
It was a call that moulded my next ten years.
What a nice fairytale ending it would be to say I finally found my life-calling. But life rarely happens perfectly.
To be continued.

## TRANSCRIPT E:
Alright this’s going to be a fun episode. It’s the first video that I speak English to my Vietnamese people - and heck, I’m not that ready to do this.
How can I talk to native English speakers with an accent. Will they judge?
By now you know that I’m not a native English speaker. I was born in Vietnam and only seriously learnt English in tenth grade or so. That’s why it’s naturally that I have an accent. It means that the way we talk is not as natural as native speakers do.
That’s why many of you DMed me and asked if people judge when you talk like this - or how I can talk confidently with an accent - I guess.
The answer is you - talk. Passionately. And don’t hold back.
But think about it. A lot of people say that they are not confident in speaking because they are afraid that people will judge them. They use it as an excuse to not learn English and speak in the first place.
Most people don’t even try. They keep thinking in their head that people will judge them. And they would never get better so they stop and they never learn.
So my friends, just talk. Talk passionately. Talk with all you have. There’s no how-to-talk tips or tricks. You just have to try. You just have to put yourself in the situation that you must talk. A lot. I guess that’s the secret. You must put yourself in situations that you must talk, a lot!
Let me give you a few examples.
Back in high school, I enrolled in this TOEFL class and every other day, the teacher would ask us to listen to tapes of conversations in English. I listened to them then write them down word, by word, by word. We literally use the cassette player because the teacher was kind of old-school cool that way. I had this big-ass SONY cassette player and every day I would tick … tick przz. Then in class, he would make round. Each of us will speak out loud, in front of the class each sentence.
But I knew that each session, I could only speak probably five or six times. That’s not enough. So I asked the teacher, if he could spent a few minutes each session to review a tape in which I pre-record all the conversations of that class.
That’s one way I did it. I put myself in the situation that I was held accountable by the teacher, that every session, I would submit my speaking cassette to him. And he was so kind to expect that and spend the time to help me. But here’s the thing, most people don’t ask. Most people don’t put in the work.
Another example,
All the years I was in college, each semester I would have a Math class with this specific professor that I like so much. But in the first period of my entire college life, he talked so fast with a lot of terminologies that I had no clues what they mean.
I was confused and overwhelmed so at the end of the period, I stayed and wanted to approach him to ask how I could do better. Would I be able to catch up with this class. And it took me seriously nearly five minutes just to go and talk to him because heck I was afraid that he would judge me, right?
But I forced myself to go talk to him and ask for his help. And he said I would be just fine. Go get this book and do some readings and he would help me as well.
The way he taught was so cool. He made each Math problem as an opportunity for students to present the solution in front the class. And guess what I did?
I knew that I would be shied. I knew that I was scared. I knew that I spoke terribly and I had an accent. I knew that I’m afraid that the whole class would judge because of my accent.
this. I’m still trying to get better. That’s why till this day, I record myself teaching something, speaking if not every day then every week.

how to learn speaking english by myself 在 Lindie Botes Youtube 的最佳貼文
[English subs: press CC] Sziasztok! Lindie vagyok. Két hónapja magyarul tanulok. A magyar nagyon szép nyelv. Örvendek!
This video is to track my Hungarian learning progress. I've been learning for two months now. I hope to improve in the coming year! I know I had some pronunciation mistakes, but this is all part of the learning journey and I look forward to looking back on this in a year or two and laughing at myself!
