Kurt Vonnegut 馮內果 （五號屠宰場）談小說寫作，但一樣適用電影劇本，
翻譯幾則特別認同的。
1. Use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted.
2. Give the reader at least one character he or she can root for.
至少有一個人物，讀者能夠認同，心甘情願作當他的啦啦隊。
3. Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water.
每一個角色都要有慾望，即便他只是想要喝杯水。
4. Every sentence must do one of two things — reveal character or advance the action.
5. Start as close to the end as possible.
6. Be a Sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them-in order that the reader may see what they are made of. 當個虐待狂。就算你的主角善良無辜是個好人，也要讓他們命運多舛慘事連連，這樣讀者才能看到主角私密的本色。
