The Taiwan Literature Award for Migrants kicks off its 5th annual competition Sunday with a call for entries open to migrant workers and immigrants who live, or had lived, in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore or Malaysia.

The organizers welcome an entry in any form/ genre written in Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, or Tagalog, which is spoken mainly in the Philippines.

At the kick-off press conference in Taipei Sunday, Joseph Christian P. Aranas, a Filipino migrant worker, reads “Cry of the Poor,” his winning piece in last year’s award, followed by a play performed by Filipino workers that depicts the sufferings of migrant fishermen in Taiwan.
