Saved by Grace, Rewarded for Good Works
“for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:8-10 WEB)
It is without debate that we are saved by Grace and that salvation is a gift. When we place our faith in Jesus as Lord, we are born-again, re-created in Christ Jesus.
Our good works have no part in our salvation. You can’t earn your righteousness because that would require you to be perfect and sinless.
However, now that you are saved, the purpose of the rest of your mortal life on earth is to do good works out of love.
God has prepared many such opportunities for you because He partners with His church to save as many people as possible from Hell and the effects of Death.
Of course, you can choose not to do any good works for King Jesus at all and you’ll still remain saved.
But when you choose to serve Him with the time, gifts and resources which He first gave to you, He will surely recompense you for it.
He wants to richly reward you for using the grace that has been given to you!
“Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works,” (Hebrews 10:24 WEB)
So, do prayerfully consider how you can love others and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the way that best suits the Grace you have received!
For example, I believe that I’m serving Jesus through the writing and teaching graces I’ve received, and I’m straightforwardly encouraging you to find ways to love others and do good works.
Perhaps you have been gifted with a beautiful singing voice. Sing songs that glorify Jesus and edify the body of Christ.
Or maybe you have the grace of making lots of money. Be a generous giver: fund the furtherance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and help those who are in need—especially widows and orphans who are of the Christian faith.
“Having gifts differing according to the grace that was given to us, if prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of our faith; or service, let us give ourselves to service; or he who teaches, to his teaching; or he who exhorts, to his exhorting: he who gives, let him do it with liberality; he who rules, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.” (Romans 12:6-8 WEB)
Whatever grace you have received, use it to serve Jesus in love, and He will surely reward you generously when we all stand before His throne!
