2002: I got my first commercial. I gave up medical school to become a model. I become an overnight success and my parents were so proud of me. NOT! Quitting medical school to move to Taiwan was probably one of the craziest and riskiest things I’ve done in my life. Medicine was always something I personally loved, and not just a professional my parents pushed me towards. I put my heart and soul into getting into medical school and I wanted to travel the world with Medicine San Frontiers.
但是,拍完廣告之後,我很想很想嘗試這個新的”模特兒”工作,不知道為什麼,因為是新的嗎?還是我想要挑戰自己呢?或是想要多待在亞洲旅遊呢?
But I had this nagging itch to try out this whole modeling thing - don’t know what it was. The excitement of something new? The challenge of a different industry altogether? The desire to travel in Asia a bit longer?
最後,我決定放棄醫學院,因為我覺得像這種比較穩定的行業如果我想回去的話都還會在。但”模特兒”這個比較不穩定、特別,而且比較適合年輕時候試試看的行業,如果要做就要趁現在。
Finally, I decided, a career in medicine will still be there in a few years if I wanted it. But this opportunity to try modeling was probably something I should do younger rather than older.
那個化妝-Oh My God!
So, i took a leap of faith and sent in my rejection letter (Haha. take THAT medical school. I reject YOU!) and started doing various TV commercials and print ads in Taiwan. I wish I could have said it was a lucrative or even successful career as a model, but honestly, there were more days in between than actual jobs. I had to support myself with a lot of side jobs: teaching English, baby sitting, joining violin performing groups, continuing my work as an EMT, etc. Anyway, here’s just a few of the very VERY varied looks I had back then. The make up…. Holy moly….

When it comes to your career, it's okay to not choose the 'best' option available; what matters is that you should choose the best option for YOURSELF. It doesn't make you a failure, despite how people might make you feel. Remember, this is your life and you have control over it.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for your career growth is to simply take a leap of faith. Many of us have realized that we can’t continue in our current careers, but there's no need to be discouraged! The pandemic has also opened a lot of opportunities for careers in different fields. In these challenging times, it's important to keep learning and growing your skills. Keep seeking jobs that matter. Keep seeking work that matches your passion and purpose in life. Don’t settle. There is hope. With the help of partners like JobStreet, you can find a job that matches your passion and purpose.
Take a minute to sit down and think of a skill you have that might be under-utilized. You'd be surprised to find that you’re actually good at something you’re not familiar with. Who’d expect me, a Chemical Engineering graduate who started my career as in Fraud Analysis for a financial institution, to have now become a Creative Director for a fashion brand? It’s been a roller coaster ride, but I’m glad that I’ve learned a lot during my journey.
Never give up and keep learning! Explore new skills! If you're looking to pick up new skills that will help in your careers, JobStreet has collaborated with FutureLearn to offer free courses available for redemption. These courses are absolutely free, so sign up and take that step to challenge yourself to learn something new and apply for your dream job! I'm hopping on their Digital Marketing course to know more about how content design can be more relevant to my business, and how it can attract more sales.

2019 has been a year filled with the most ups and downs.
Big changes which includes me moving into Kuala Lumpur, changing jobs from a Language Teacher into a Business Development Ex into a Fitness Coach and now plus an ongoing swimming coach to be.
I took a few leap of faiths in 2019, joining pageant again with no hopes of getting through the interview but I’ve not just made it into the finalist, I’ve gotten to Top 10 in Miss Universe Malaysia 2019.
I’ve taken another leap by making career changes from office/corporate that pays decent salary to something physical that pays often changes a lot based on your performances in exchange for my happiness.
I’ve crashed all the way down to depression when I’ve learnt that my dad passed along with the drama that his mistress wasn’t planning to let me know about his passing and yet have the guts of trying to cremate him before i see him one last time.
I’ve crashed so bad, i quit my job, i chopped my hair off, I’ve push everyone away, I’ve even refused to step back into my hometown.
I’ve never felt lost as my dad was the only person who knew why i did what and why i wanted to do what even though it may seem like the stupidest thing in everyone’s eye, he just seemed to understand.
But I’ve learnt to bounce back up and being functional again.
By the end of 2019,
I’ve been the happiest I’ve ever been in ages as I’ve been able to work at a place that i enjoy hanging out in, I’ve learnt to grow as a person, I’ve never been so driven in life, I’m more focused on what I want in life, I’ve found my self-worth, I’ve learnt to open up more and learn to try trusting people, I’ve made myself to hangout more with friends rather than just pushing them away (i need to still do this more)
2019 been great but hey obviously there are some glitches here and there but sometimes it’s not you, it’s just them. 😉
Thankful for all the changes i had in 2019, grateful for all the people who stood by me, loved me and understood me.
To a better 2020 🥰
Keeping them resolutions all to myself cause it’s none of your business xx

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” – Steve Jobs
When passion becomes a profession, it doesn’t feel like work anymore. I left a stable job to pursue my foodie passion full time. My only regret is that I did not take that leap of faith sooner.
