Our simple, yummy dinner tonight that cost us $17 for 4 people.
Yup, we are making it a habit to visit the hawker centre more regularly when we dine out because I don't want these kids to take it for granted that we can always go to restaurants, fast food centres or even air-conditioned food courts.
Besides supporting our unique local hawker culture and saving up money, it's also a way for me to teach them to better cherish what they have in life and learn to stop complaining or wishing for more.
Nowadays, I just leave them alone to do their drawing or play their own self-invented games while I go and get the food. Some stalls are out of sight and the queues are super long, but they never grumble and always wait patiently for my return. Okay, sometimes they bicker and I can hear their screams from far away but I pretend not to. Haha. They also learnt not to whine about the heat or stuffiness and that it's okay to sweat profusely when we eat. It makes them understand the value of money, to learn to be thrifty, and to realise that sometimes the best things in life can be the simplest, and most inexpensive, ones.
Hope to treasure more of such happy moments with the kids. Thank you for being such awesome company!
P.S. They were motivated to eat fast because we were seated near an open space which had a nice playground with climbing structures and a tunnel slide. Looks like this will become one of our favourite spots.
P.P.S. A friendly old lady sat next to us and we started chatting. She saw the kids eating obediently and asked if all three kids are mine. Then she said "你很厉害!" which I always disagree because there are so many mums who have more kids than me. She also said "你自己看孩子,现在一定忙,但是二十年后,你就有空了。" Yup, wise words from a 过来人. Not sure if it makes me look forward to 20 years later, but it does remind me to cherish my every day with them now and for the years to come. Thank you, auntie!

漢奇肉羹(北投)
踏入漢奇會看到排隊的人潮,切記內用跟外帶的人龍是不一樣的。
一般在北投會常聽到的是文吉肉羹,但小編要介紹的是漢奇肉羹。漢奇肉羹的創始人原先也是在文吉當學徒在那工作了很久直到老文吉把牌子賣人才離開。
漢奇肉羹除了繼承文吉肉羹的扎實嚼勁,還走出了自己獨特的風格,所以身受在地北投的喜愛。
他的肉羹有幾種選擇:純肉羹、或是兩樣跟四樣綜合。
以五花肉小編豪邁的度量一定是四樣綜合奉上,而四樣綜合包含了肉羹、豬腸、貢丸、排骨酥,那個光看份量就讓人覺得可以飽一整天。
肉羹大塊札實,得分兩三口才能解決一塊肉羹。
豬腸乾淨Q彈。
手打貢丸的口感就像食神裡可以拿來打乒乓球一樣的有彈性。
排骨酥也不辜負那個酥字,醃製過後再炸的處理,然後下水燉煮,連牙齒不好的人都可以輕易的食用。
加上大骨熬製卻輕新甘甜湯頭,光這一碗滿足感就滿滿。
但五花肉小編怎麼可能錯過那碗淋上甜辣醬的乾麵,跟一般的乾麵淋上肉燥及滷汁不同。
漢奇甜辣醬口味,因為照甜辣醬的口感是屬於偏甜不辣,跟油麵條還有黃豆芽配合起來,完全沒漏洞。縱使前面有一大碗綜合羹的襲擊,這碗乾麵依舊美味到讓我一掃而空。
因為漢奇的份量真的很足,所以最好多點人一起吃會比較好。

HanChi Pork Thick Soup (Beitou)
There’s another famous restaurant sells pork thick soup in Beitou area which is named WenChi, but today I want to introduce you HanChi Pork Thick Soup. The founder of HanChi used to an apprentice of WenChi restaurant for a long time, until the old owner of WenChi sold his restaurant.
HanChi inherited the springy mouthfeel of the starch-coated-pork, which made it very popular among local people. The options you have here are: Pork Thick Soup, Combo of 2, and Combo of 4. I chose Combo of 4 today, it includes starch-coated-pork, pig’s intestine, meat ball, and fried short rib. The size of the meal will surprise you, I thought, it takes you 2 to 3 bites to consume a chuck of pork in the soup, look how big it is. Some of you may not want to try the pig’s intestine, but I am sure the intestines here are fresh and handled very well, no funny taste at all. The meat balls are made by hand, you can taste the difference from those made by machine. They are like Ping-Pong bouncing in your mouth. And the fried short ribs are marinaded before deep frying, then stew in the soup makes it very tender.
All these materials in the broth stewed by big bones, it’s really a satisfaction.
I also suggest you to try their dry noodle, it’s topping with sweet and soicy sauce, not minced pork sauce or marinade like other restaurants usually use. The sauce is more sweet than spicy, it surprisingly very match with the egg noodle and bean sprouts. Even though the bog bowl of Combo soup really occupied almost all of my stomach, the good taste of the noodle still made me couldn’t help it to finish it. However, for your stomach’s sake, I recommend you to invite some friends when dining here.
