Gestures have different meanings in different places. In some places, including Thailand, people pose for photos with a two-fingered gesture. This can have a very, very different meaning in the West. So be careful when you're travelling!
I've found some examples.
John Lennon is using two fingers to mean "peace". This is a bit old-fashioned now, but still understood.
Churchill is using two fingers a sign for victory. This is a long-standing symbol and is deeply embedded in British culture and history.
Note: You need to look at the context to tell the "peace" gesture from the "victory" one. It's normally obvious.
Now, this is where you need to be careful... Turn the hand the other way round, and it's offensive!
Robbie Williams is using two fingers to say "f**k off". This is a gesture that combines defiance with insult. It's not as rude as just sticking up your middle finger. But it's still very rude, so don't do it unless you really want to cause trouble!
