Received this hazon vision the other day.
So many of us who are married need this reminder from the Holy Spirit to do the first works of romance so that we will experience our first love again (the initial freshness of your marriage).
Kiss and hug often, spend private time together, chat, and find shared interests to enjoy. Most importantly, pray and study God’s word together.
Your marriage is not going to get better by itself if you neglect it. The feeling of affection for your spouse will not return if no one takes the first step.
You are not weak if you act first. You are not the one who ‘loses’. In fact, if no one makes an initiative towards reconciliation, both are losers and the only winner is the devil. God is pleased when you push past your fleshly pride and humble yourself before your spouse, showing love even when it is difficult to do so.
You will be surprised by how one kiss done in faith, and a “I am sorry, please forgive me. I love you,” can quickly dissolve a prolonged cold war between a couple.
Love wins, and love is not a feeling. It is a commitment to lay your life down for the other person’s happiness and well-being, even if it requires self-sacrifice, and even when you don’t enjoy doing something.
That’s how Jesus loved us. He went to the cross and carried our sins, even when it meant intense pain and the devastation of being treated by the Father as a sinner. He even bore the sins and inquiries of those who will never choose to place their faith in Him. Love just gives without demanding reciprocation.
Jesus told husbands to love their wives just as He loved the church; that wives should submit to their husbands as unto the Lord.
Such commandments under Grace are not for forcing you to do things that you don’t want to.
When you meditate on how Jesus laid down His life for you at the cross, fully paying your sin debt, you will want to love your spouse the same way. When you behold Jesus who is “love” personified, you will want to love others too, and the immediate beneficiary is most probably your spouse and children.
God is ready to bless your marriage, and even restored estranged couples. Will you take a step in faith and act on this rhema word? As you take the initiative to romance your spouse, God’s Grace will cause the “first love” to be rekindled. Don’t be surprised if you become physically younger too!
