This week's video's about Omoide Yokocho (aka Piss Alley aka Memory Lane!), an area in Tokyo with alleyways of tiny restaurants & bars - lots of them are counter-style with only about 6 or 8 seats. We didn't make the best choice of restaurant (& the menu was in Japanese so we had a tray of mystery meats!) - but don't let that put you off! Over out food search in Tokyo we concluded that the best food can be found in the special ward, Shinjuku. With its bright neon light, night life and tall buildings, this is the place where all the tastiest foods can be found. The main highlight of our visit in Shinjuku was Omoide Yokocho(Memory Lane), filled with narrow alleys of tiny restaurants that serve izakaya food. Freshly grilled yakitori with an ice-cold glass of beer, a match made in heaven. On a side note, if you are thinking whether it is worth it to pay to watch the Robot Restaurant show in Tokyo, yes it definitely is! Its a unique and entertaining experience that you cannot find anywhere else.

Food in Japan is excellent on the whole, but this day we just had bad luck! (And it's not really that bad...!). Don't let me put you off exploring Omoide Yokocho though - it's an interesting area with small, pedestrianised alleyways and tiny bars and restaurants, near the west exit of Shinjuku Station in Tokyo. While the food's not the best for vegetarians, I'd go for the ambience and nostalgic, authentic Japanese counter-style places to eat. Most of them are izakaya (Japanese pubs) that serve yakitori, kushiyaki, as well as street food, noodle places and bar snacks.
