Far end at Gertak Sanggul, the fishing village next to Teluk Kumbar has some hidden gems worth excavating, especially for seafood lovers. Opposite to Gertak Sanggul Seafood Fishing Stage is Gertak Sanggul Tua Pek Kong Seafood The seafood restaurant is found right next to a Tua Pek Kong Temple, facing the beach/ sea. The setup is simple- with some basic tables and chairs on beach sand, there is no proper restaurant setting here and the tables are quite limited making it less-accommodating for big groups. The menu is fairly small- most of the offering would depend on the catch of the day.

Teluk Kumbar is often the de-facto place (on Penang island) to go to when it comes to Mee Udang, the fishing village is known for supplying the freshest catch in Penang. Pak Tam is not exactly the most famous joint but rather, well-hidden and secluded at a corner of Teluk Kumbar. The secret fishing spot is famous amongst anglers, it does take some navigating skills to reach there. On your way in, you will find untouched natural scenery and run-down village houses. The road can be bumpy so be prepared for an intense journey. There's a fresh water pond (man-made I presumed) and within a stone's throw distance away, there's a beach with clean, seemingly unpolluted waters. Pak Tam Mee Udang is a humble, unpretentious stall operating at the beach front. Like the name implies, it churns out Mee Udang. Diners get to choose between a few types of Noodles and the preferred Seafood choices (or opt out seafood). This may not be exactly the best Mee Udang around but the entire package (serene neighborhood with soothing sea breeze) is a rare encounter in a well-developed city.

10 DAYS OF GIVING with ngohub
If you are in the spirit of giving this year, you can make a difference by helping out some of the NGOs in Malaysia in need of items. For the next 10 days, I will be sharing some of them seeking grants on www.ngohub.asia.
DAY 1: GIVE THE GIFT OF SHELTER TO CATS
Cat Lovers International (Persuatuan Pencinta Kucing Antarabangsa) have created "Cat Beach Sanctuary" in a quiet fishing village in Penang just a year ago which has been more than a shelter for cats. Many improvements have been made but are proud that the cats have never missed a meal in the past year.
Please help them by donating essential items they need to build a cat cafe to sustain their cat sanctuary operation. Some items are stand fan, banquet tables, plastic chairs, book shelves and etc. You can donate and contribute here: http://www.ngohub.asia/projects.php?cat-beach-cat-caf

Step out of my comfort zone!

Monkey beach is about 20 minutes ride by boat from entrance of National Park or 2 hour’s vigorous trek from same entrance.
It offers tranquility, privacy and quiet moments away from the hustle and bustle of Georgetown. If you do decide to hike, there will be sign leading you to the beach after you do registration (Free) at the Penang National Park. My advice is that you start your journey, early in the morning so you can have plenty of time to plan your activities there later in the day.
Not only you can swim, you can even snooze on them. There's nothing like being lulled to sleep by the endless ocean waves.
And there are miles of sun-bleached sand, clear green waters, camp sites, numerous fishing spots and picturesque places for romantic moments. It's a perfect place for couples to enjoy their private moments.
There is no stall, no hotels and no crowd in Monkey Beach. However, there is a barbeque pits prepared by some hotels workers to cater for the tourists. You can just sit on the white sandy beaches to relax and admired by the huge Indian Ocean that is overlooking the teeny speck of Penang Island.
Such a wonderful place in the secluded gems of Penang. Monkey Beach is indeed a top choice for beach lovers.
