1. (to be) conducive to 促進、有助於
(=making it easy, possible, or likely for something to happen or exist)
e.g. The school provides an environment conducive to learning. (這學校提供了一個適合學習的環境)
2. dispense with 省去、放棄
e.g. In the interest of time, let's dispense with self-introduction.
(為了節省時間，我們就省去自我介紹的部分吧)
3. verge on 等同於、相似
e.g. Many of Jason’s activities verged on the illegal.
(很多傑森的行為都遊走在法律邊緣)
e.g. Domestically produced cars are overpriced while prices for imported cars verge on the absurd.
(雖說國產車的價錢過度昂貴，但進口車的價錢貴的激幾近荒謬)
4. (to be) on a par with 與～(品質、程度) 相等
His new book is on par with his best sellers.
(他的新書可與他的幾本暢銷書媲美)
5. (to be) at odds with 不合、不一致
Clearly, his behavior is clearly at odds with what the college expects from its students.
(很明顯地，他的行為和該大學所期待學生所表現的有所出入)
