關於Boss的正經事，與二三事

Bruce Springsteen，江湖尊稱Boss，即大哥、教父之意。

學生時代購買他的唱片，側標上尊稱他為「工人皇帝」，這回被出版社正名為「藍領搖滾教父」了。

再說二三事。

不知道還有沒有人記得，電影《失戀排行榜》裡頭，Boss現身了一幕？
當約翰庫薩克躺在床上發牢騷時，喃喃唸道Boss的名字，Boss也就阿拉丁神燈般果真出現了！當然，他手上彈著那把招牌米色Fender Esquire電吉他。

後來我才知道，《失戀排行榜》的作者Nick Hornby是Boss的大粉絲，這裡有篇兩人的對談錄：

《生來奔跑》是本硬派的樂手回憶錄，Boss掏心掏肺和讀者講了許多音樂圈和樂團內的politics，我不免好奇，他團員們讀了，心頭會是什麼滋味？
但總的來說，非常勵志。

這是我寫給此書的推薦語：布魯斯・史普林斯汀是最後一代「探索存在意義的美國冒險家」，他讓千萬人團結在巨大的音樂版圖裡。《生來奔跑》是他用汗與淚，還有活過的時間，奮力敲打出的一部生存史，也是美國夢曾經存在的明證。

這次配合《生來奔跑》在台上市，出版社和《週刊編集》共編了一份專刊，有Boss的Discography（彩色版喔），拍謝少年張維尼的導讀，一篇鍾永豐的專文〈野狼125、Bruce Springsteen與荖濃溪的夏天〉，我和幾個朋友（李取中、馬世芳）也試譯了幾首歌詞。

我選擇了2002年《The Rising》（躍升）專輯的收尾曲〈My City Of Ruins〉（我的廢墟城市）。
選這張專輯與這首歌，是有個人意義的。

911事件發生時，我入伍剛滿一週（我在2001年9月4日入伍），在官田新訓中心被關了三週，第一次放假，一回家，就看到電視轉播的《America: A Tribute To Heroes》義唱，Boss挑選的歌正是這首〈My City Of Ruins〉。

這首歌在911事件發生前已經寫好，描繪的「那座城」，是紐澤西已然衰敗的Asbury Park — Asbury Park即Boss首張專輯《Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.》的地理背景。

911事發後，〈My City Of Ruins〉的一字一句，被重新賦予了意義。
透過那場電視轉播，Boss用這首歌，安撫了、療癒了，也振奮了一座傷痕累累的、百廢待舉的城市。

English cover of Peace Sign by Kenshi Yonezu.
There are a lot of English covers of this, but this is my interpretation.
I worked with the theory that "you" refers to the singer's younger self.
