A skincare brand brings two Asian television personalities together for a mission.
IF you think picking a brand ambassador is an easy task, think again. Not only must the person be appealing to the brand’s audience, he or she must have a genuine affinity for the product and be able to channel the qualities of the brand.
American skincare brand H2O Plus chose not one, but two ambassadors, Malaysian singer and actor, Aric Ho, and Hong Kong actress, Priscilla Wong Tsui Yu to be the face of its new campaigns.
Founded in 1989 by Cindy Melk and developed based on the water concept of sea science, the brand is distributed by Luxor Beauty World Sdn Bhd in Malaysia and Brunei.
Being a global brand in the science of marine skincare whereby the ocean is the brand’s main source of active ingredients, H2O Plus is committed to fulfilling the company’s corporate vision.
It embarked on a Marine Conservation Programme for the Save Our Water Planet programme last month by collaborating with Hume Cement Sdn Bhd to build an artificial reef in Pulau Soyak, off Pulau Tioman in Pahang. The objective was to help sustain the growth of reefs so as to enhance the biodiversity and sustainability of our underwater eco-system for the long term existence of marine and coral lives.
“Aric, who is also an underwater photographer and diver, was with us during our recent dive in Pulau Soyak to help us build the underwater reef. It was tough work, installing reinforced concrete blocks weighing 70kg each onto the sea bed!” Wong Meng Choy, CEO of Luxor, pointed out.
“During this dive, Aric also managed to film a whale shark which is a rare treat as some divers can dive for many years and not see one,” he said, adding that Ho has been working with the brand for the last three years.
Ho has just launched a new album and is preparing for the next one. He was introduced to H2O Plus when he was working in Taiwan and Hong Kong a few years ago.
“Men hardly use skincare products but I think it is important that we learn to groom ourselves. With my work schedule I only get three to four hours of sleep a night so hydration is very important for my skin,” he said.
Wong, who has hosted more than eight programmes and acted in more than five drama series, is no stranger to Malaysia as she regularly visits her good friends here.
“I’m passionate about the deep sea and everything connected to marine life. I’ve been using H2O Plus products since I was a schoolgirl,” said Priscilla, who counts black pepper crab, roasted pork and bak kut teh among her favourite Malaysian food.
She has just finished filming a drama set to be released next year and will be hosting a travel programme that will take her around the world as well. As a TV personality, Priscilla has to use make-up all day and she finds the Face Oasis a good oil-free marine hydration skincare that helps to hydrate and smoothen her skin.
“Besides being a travel programme host, Priscilla is an up-and-coming TVB actress. She’s easy to work with, and has abstained from consuming shark’s fin since becoming our ambassadress,” says Wong.
It seems Ho is hopeful for Priscilla to get her diving licence soon so that they can dive together to help with the brand’s marine conservation work!
