Zaobao asked me and a few others for our thoughts on the theme of 传承. Two Chinese characters, packing so much meaning – literally to hand on and to receive, but a better translation would be to pass on something precious from generation to generation.
As the piece was for the Bicentennial National Day, my thoughts naturally went back to all the NDPs I have seen. I remember most vividly the years when I marched, including 1968, when the rain poured on the parade, and 1969, when we celebrated Singapore’s 150 years.
