Does “Stand Still” Mean Doing Nothing?
“When Pharaoh came near, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were very afraid. The children of Israel cried out to Yahweh. They said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you treated us this way, to bring us out of Egypt? Isn’t this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, ‘Leave us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians?’ For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.” Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh, which He will work for you today: for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall never see them again. Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still.”” (Exodus 14:10-14 WEB)
Notice how Moses said “stand still” and “be still” but the children of Israel had to walk a long journey through the dry land between the two walls of seawater?
“Stand still” does not mean doing nothing, neglecting responsibilities, and lazing around while doing unfruitful activities.
To stand still means to be restful in your heart, not trying to save yourself, but trusting that God is the one who is saving you from every trouble. It means not trying to open doors for yourself through fleshly efforts, but relying on God’s favor to show up at the right time, and just walking through open doors.
Instead of complaining and asking where is God when you’re going through a difficult time, realize that the trial is not here to drown you, but rather to give you victory through God’s supernatural intervention. So just praise Him because He is fighting for you!
Most of the children of Israel who came out of Egypt didn’t understand the concept of times and seasons. They wanted everything to happen at their timing, in their way. That wrong mindset led them to suffer, wander and die in the wilderness without possessing their inheritance of the promised land.
“God’s Appointed Time” is a crucial truth to live by, so you can rise above every fleshly disappointment, and be a person who does the right thing, at the right time with excellent results in every season: https://www.miltongoh.net/store/p23/gods-appointed-time-milton-goh.html

““The day came that the rich man also died. In hell he looked up from his torment and saw Abraham in the distance, and Lazarus the beggar was standing beside him in the glory. So the rich man shouted, ‘Father Abraham! Father Abraham! Have mercy on me. Send Lazarus to dip his finger in water and come to cool my tongue, for I am in agony in these flames of fire!’ “But Abraham responded, ‘My friend, don’t you remember? While you were alive, you had all you desired, surrounded in luxury, while Lazarus had nothing. Now Lazarus is in the comforts of paradise and you are in agony...”Abraham said to him, ‘If they won’t listen to Moses and the prophets, neither would they believe even if someone was raised from the dead!’ ”” (Luke 16:23-25, 31 TPT)
In Jesus’ Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus, why did Lazarus the beggar go to Paradise and the rich man go to Hell?
It’s not because a person who suffered in his lifetime is automatically granted a one-way ticket to Heaven.
Neither does being rich disqualify a person from Heaven.
Lazarus is enjoying the comforts of Heaven whereas the rich man is tormented day and night in unquenchable flames—it’s not because one person lived morally better than the other.
If we read the last sentence of the parable, we will know the answer. It lies in the word “believe”.
Lazarus went to Heaven because he believed in the God of Israel. In his poverty, he probably prayed and asked Yahweh to be merciful to him.
On the other hand, the rich man did not believe. He only lived to satisfy the cravings of his flesh and failed to receive salvation through faith.
Like the last line of the parable hints, someone has really been raised from the dead—and His name is Jesus.
Do you believe that He is the Son of God, the one who died and rose again so that you would know that all your sins are paid for?
Don’t wait until you’re dead and the angels are forcibly dragging your spirit by the arms to toss you into Hell before you scream that Jesus is Lord. By then it’ll be too late.
You would join all those who are screaming in there endlessly because they spent a whole lifetime rejecting the atoning sacrifice of the Son of God, who suffered and died to pay for their sins.
The wages of sin is death, and there can only be two options: either you accept Jesus’ payment on your behalf, or you keep paying the price yourself—you can never finish paying it in Hell because sinning against God is an infinitely grievous offence.
You can’t cease to exist because your spirit is eternal, since you were made from the breath of the eternal God.
The deceased spirit of an unforgiven sinner can never go to Heaven because sin cannot remain in the holy God’s presence.
Whether you a poor or rich, you can still be saved simply by placing your faith in Jesus as your Lord.
Jesus loves you so much that He suffered cruel torture and bled Himself dry so that His sinless blood would make atonement for all your sins.
Don’t delay your day of salvation because a sinner’s life is so fragile. Just one microscopic virus can kill. One infected wound can kill.
If you sense a loving force encouraging you to entrust your life to Jesus, just do so by faith.
If you’re already a believer, just take a moment to thank Jesus for saving you from an eternity in hellfire. We don’t deserve it, but we freely received this gift of salvation—it is God’s Grace and mercy towards us!

How to Believe the Right Way to be Saved
“Israel saw the great work which Yahweh did to the Egyptians, and the people feared Yahweh; and they believed in Yahweh, and in his servant Moses.” (Exodus 14:31 WEB)
After the awesome deliverance that Yahweh (the pre-incarnate Christ) accomplished for the children of Israel at the Red Sea, the Scriptures record that they believed in Yahweh.
However in the epistle to the Hebrews, we learn that most of that generation of the children of Israel never placed their faith in Yahweh and were never saved—they did not enter into the rest that God had provided through Jesus’ finished work at the cross.
“Let us fear therefore, lest perhaps anyone of you should seem to have come short of a promise of entering into his rest. For indeed we have had good news preached to us, even as they also did, but the word they heard didn’t profit them, because it wasn’t mixed with faith by those who heard...For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his. Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience.” (Hebrews 4:1-2, 10-11 WEB)
Their bodies were physically saved from Egypt, but they didn’t receive the salvation for their sinful spirits by placing their faith in Yahweh.
Is there a contradiction in Scripture? How come they believed in Yahweh and yet weren’t saved?
The way they believed was not the type that results in salvation. Take a look at the following verse:
“You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder.” (James 2:19 WEB)
Demons also believe in God and they believe that Jesus is the Son of God, however it’s clear that they don’t place their faith in Him as their Lord.
Let me give an illustration. Let’s imagine that you are a helpless, weak person traveling in a dangerous forest. Suddenly a whole group of tribal folk emerge from the trees and start pursuing you to kill you.
As you are running for your life, a strong man appears and using a blade, he kills all your enemies, saving you.
Am I right to say that after seeing that, you’ll believe that the man is able to fight and save your life, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll make him your lord?
Similarly, the children of Israel believed in Yahweh’s great power as He demonstrated through the plagues in Egypt and the miraculous deliverance at the Red Sea, but they never placed their faith in Him as their Lord.
This is evidenced by their constant complaining, idolatry and unbelief afterwards, never believing that Yahweh is for them and that He will supply all their needs.
They viewed Him as a powerful God whom they were afraid of, but they also believed that there were other gods—if not they wouldn’t have worshipped the molten calf.
“that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9 WEB)
Dear brethren, it’s not good enough to believe that Jesus is the Messiah. The religious leaders of Israel believed that, saw all the proof of His claim to Messiahship and still knowingly chose to reject Him with hardened hearts even after His resurrection from the dead.
“Now while they were going, behold, some of the guards came into the city, and told the chief priests all the things that had happened. When they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave a large amount of silver to the soldiers, saying, “Say that his disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. If this comes to the governor’s ears, we will persuade him and make you free of worry.”” (Matthew 28:11-14 WEB)
Instead of gathering to discuss plans to announce to Israel who the Messiah was, they chose to conspire and bury the truth with lies just to remain in power and not change the status quo.
To be saved, one has to place his faith in Jesus and allow Him to become his Lord. If Jesus is your Lord, then you are saved!
