Before the night ends.. here’s sharing more on #worldbreastfeedingweek ❤️
.. It's been over a year with Ellie now, and breastfeeding 🤱 her for as long as I can, committing myself as much as I had with her brothers too. Definitely an enriching and rewarding journey seeing how her brothers benefit from my contribution.
Many of my friends told me how impressed by my determination and I must emphasise that it definitely didn’t come without any struggles. Love to share how we managed to go thru this long nights and all around the clock schedule for the past 6 years…
1. Cuddle and skin contact as much as you can! I’m a self high mama, and I have high level of energy. After Every birth labour I would smell, touch, carry and request for long skin to skin contact moments (As much as Im exhausted from all the pushes, my adrenaline and urge to feed them is higher than being fatigue). Though having ample rest is also very important, make sure you are well-rested too! As all these senses of smell, touch and sight helps in promoting lactation production too! To make it more comfy at home, side latch and cuddle to nap together (be careful when you co-sleep so as not to endanger your baby).
2. Stay hydrated and eat! Yes, feed yourself mama or else how you can get your energy or nutrients to feed your little ones! Drinking up, especially before every feed - mine was warm red date tea, milo and even bbt helped me! All types of Soups, especially those with a lot collagens such as white fungus, pork bones and even peach gums boosted my supply. (Pls check - for peach gums may be too cooling for some)
3. Rest, nap and sleep while you can! No need to explain but you know why. It regenerates your own recovery too. I literally nap as much as my babies, and I do that together, so side latching is definitely my favourite position.

The twins are still a few minutes old and covered with vernix. Thats what gives the aromatic pleasant smell to all newborns .
Vernix Caseosa is a white cheesy material that covers newborns in the womb .
It protects them from the amniotic fluid in many ways . Without it the skin becomes wrinkled .
It also protects them from infection .
Its beneficial to let it be on the newborns for some time before washing them off .
Its been 2 days and we are still in the hospital .
Dr Halina is doing well up and moving about .
Breastfeeding has already begun every 2 hours .
That means sleepless nights for her .
We try to do as much skin to skin contact with the twins . These are critical times for bonding to develop - from our voices and touches .
Most of the time Dads do not know what to do and just leave everything to Mommy .
Its important for Dads to get involved during these precious times by cuddling them , cooing them , changing their diapers and many more .
Babies could sense the presence of loved ones which will benefit in the long run .
Just sharing ...
Salam Everyone
Love As Always
PS - We are still undecided with their names . Any suggestions ? One with the same alphabet for both ....

International Breastfeeding Week got me scrolling back to January 2020 and March 2018 for pictures of my first few skin to skin contact with my babies. Arielle and Aaron looked and behaved very similarly!
Same same but different, because it is still a challenge to nurse Aaron when we are out because is an easily distracted baby. Even at my parents’ place, he is very curious about his surroundings. He would rather go hungry!
But my biggest challenge came 3 weeks ago when I was down with dengue. Persistent high fever, aches, rashes, I was physically and mentally exhausted. My supply dipped on the 4th day of my fever as I only managed to pump 50ml for some feeds when Aaron takes at least 160ml. I was upset but determined to overcome this hurdle. Coincidentally, I had the same hurdle when Arielle was 6 months old. My beloved 阿公 passed on (It will be 2 years this month) and I had pneumonia right after the funeral wake. I thought to myself, I had pneumonia and was hospitalised then, if I could build back supply then, let me try my best again this time!
I latched as much as Aaron allowed me too, I say this because supply was so weak and slow, he was fussy, I could see him struggle and sucking hard for his milk. I told him to work hard with me as we could only do this together. Sometimes it was sufficient, sometimes it wasn’t, so we would give him a top up of bm from my extra pumps.
Besides the extra pumps I would do after latches - for 2 weeks, before I went to bed, I would prepare 2 slices of bread, 4 bottles of water for my MOTN feeds. I drank a lot more soup and water, in hopes to build supply. I recovered after 2 weeks and thankfully supply came back gradually.
Thank God! Thank you, Aaron and thank you my IG family for being so encouraging when my supply was weak and sharing my joy when supply returned. So here I am, 6.5 months into living life in 3-4 hourly blocks. Breastfeeding is easily one of the most challenging and time consuming thing a mama can do for her children. Low supply, just-nice, oversupply mamas, we all have our own fights - we can do this! 👊🏻 Happy International Breastfeeding Week!
