We’re going to talk about the basic steps of how the SMT line producing a PCB board, but in this episode, we have to understand what is SMT first?
“SMT”, Surface Mount Technology, meaning the technology that can solder the electronics components on the circuit board. Comparing to SMT, the term SMD is Surface Mount Device, means the electronic components which can be using on the SMT process. We can use “solder paste” on the circuit board to stick the electronic components on the surface, and after the reflow melt the paste, the electronic part will be welded on the circuit board after the temperature cool down.
Unlike the traditional through hole using “wave soldering” technology, SMT tremendously reduce the size of the electronic parts. So the advantage of SMT is the product can be designed smaller, and more suitable for mass production. After decreasing the manpower and working hours, SMT can use lower cost to develop more high-end product.
