As signalled by the name- Tom & Yummy, this new kid on the block (at Sentral Jaya, Bukit Mertajam) specializes in offering Tom Yum. Diners get to choose the toppings… buffet style. The fridge displays a wide array of toppings ranging from fresh Vegetables, Meat, Seafood to Fish Balls. Pick your preferred toppings, choose the type of noodles and soup bases, they will make a bowl of personalized noodles. The signature soup is of course- Tom Yum… but not the authentic Thai version, more like with a local-twist. Unlike the Thai Tom Yum that we are familiar with, Tom & Yummy’s rendition is almost akin Assam Pedas’… the Nyonya spicy-sour Fish soup. It did not quite hit the spot but if you are game for something different, you may try it out.

曼谷罪惡的夜宵 「Jeh O Chula 」
旅遊成癮的鄉村男孩城市女孩這一次帶你們來到「曼谷」。Jeh O Chula 是近年來曼谷最有名的深夜食堂。位處曼谷National Stadium BTS站附近,入夜以後這家店的人潮嚇死人,全因一碗MAMA面!
是的!MAMA面! 而且很 "ba bai" 喔,晚上11點以後才供應。我們點了250baht的2人份,大大碗的媽媽麵配超濃郁冬蔭公湯,再加上不同的海鮮,肉圓和燒肉(!!)配料,酸酸辣辣超級開胃。可是不太能吃辣的我們比較喜歡青檸辣椒三文魚刺身和那一片片皮脆肉軟的燒肉。尤其是那燒肉-入口即化的肥肉真是銷魂。下一次我一定5-6點來吃這兩樣小菜配白粥。Jeh O Chula 11 p.m. 前主要是賣小炒。
需注意:
1. 請飯店替你預定。
2.大約10.30點到達。
3.告訴店員預定名字,他會在白板上找你的名字,然後再交給你一個筹號。等大約30分鐘。
4.沒預訂的話也是拿籌號,可是需要等比較久喔。等大約1-2小時。
5. 最好星期一到四來,週末人潮太多了。

Jeh O Chula‘s MAMA noodles is definitely Bangkok's most instagrammable dish. During our last visit, we ordered the 250 baht bowl and it came in this super huge portion and loaded with ingredients such as seafood, meat balls and siew yoke! The tom yam soup base was really thick and creamy and of course spicy too! I preferred the thai style salmon sashimi and siew yoke, the view yoke was so so so good - super crunchy skin and fat layers that melt in your mouth! I don't mind returning here for dinner as Jeh O Chula sells mainly small dishes and congee before 11 pm.
Note:
1. Ask your hotel concierge to make reservation for you.
2. Arrive at 1030 pm.
3. Look for the guy who's handling the white board and tell him your name, he will then pass you a number.
4. If you come without reservation, you will still need to get a paper slip with written number, but the waiting time is longer.
5. Try to avoid coming here during weekends.

Thai Pomelo Salad by Jimmy’s Table
Sauce Ingredients (食材):
1/4 cup Fish Sauce (魚露)
1/4 cup Vinegar (白醋)
1/4 cup Sugar (糖)
1/4 cup Garlic (大蒜) - minced
2 Red Chilis (小辣椒) - minced
4-5 Limes (青柠檬) - halved and squeezed for juice, seeds removed
1/2 cup Cilantro (香菜) - leaves only, chopped
1/2 cup - Mint (薄荷) - leaves only, chopped
1/2 cup -Basil (九层塔) - leaves only, chopped
Key Ingredients:
1 Chicken breast (鸡胸肉) - boiled
18 Shrimp (虾仁) - boiled
1 Pomelo or 4-6 grapefruit (柚子,葡萄柚) - peeled, fruit removed
Finishing Ingredients:
1/2 cup Cashews (腰果)
1/2 cup Peanuts (花生)
1/4 cup Deep fried shallots (炸小葱头)
1/4 cup Deep fried garlic (炸大蒜)
Steps:
1. Make the sauce by adding fish sauce, vinegar, sugar, minced garlic, minced red chilis and lime juice. Taste for a balanced salty, sweet, sour, spicy flavor. If it's too salty, add vinegar and sugar to dilute and balance. Add limes to make it more sour, chilis to spice it up and fish sauce for more funkiness!
2. Add chopped cilantro, mint and basil to the sauce.
3. Boil chicken breast and hand peel off pieces of chicken into thin strips of chicken. Chicken soup can be cooled and saved as chicken stock for other dishes.
4. Devein and remove shrimp shell. Boil shrimp.
5. Peel pomelo or grapefruit for just the meat of the fruit
6. Mix pomelo/grapefruit, shredded chicken, shrimp. Add in sauce. Add in additional cilantro, mint or basil depending on how much herbs you like. Toss and mix the salad. If you plan to serve today, continue with next step. This salad can be pre-made and stored in the refrigerator. Add in steps 7 & 8 when ready to serve.
7. In a dry frying pan, heat up cashews and peanuts until warm and slightly brown and toasted. Add into salad.
8. Add in deep fried shallots and garlic for extra flavor.
9. Toss together and serve.

Its funny how someone like me who doesn’t really eat any spicy food back home is actually eating a lot of spicy food in Hatyai, Thailand. No I am not complaining in fact I think I am really getting into this spiciness thingy! Lol, I even brought back Raw Ingredients so that I could whip up the same great ‘Gaeng Som’ I had at Hroy Restaurant หรอย . If you are flying into Hatyai, this is one restaurant that you should visit as its located near to the Hatyai Airport. The boss of the restaurant is Mr Hroy is is also the name of his restaurant. The restaurant isn’t anything fancy and has a small shop front selling local thai good where you can also find the Special ‘Gaeng Som’ Sauce which has won numerous awards. If you don’t know what ‘Gaeng Som’ is, well it is a hot and sour soup similar to Szechuan Hot and Sour Soup and there’s Seafood in it. Mr Roy was being very kind to demonstrate cooking his raved about ‘Gaeng Som’ and he made it look really simple with the ‘prepack sauce’ and the ‘Gaeng Som’ was ready in 15 mins top. The room was filled with the aroma of ‘Gaeng Som’ and as I couldn’t help but noticed that every occupied table in the restaurant had a bowl of ‘Gaeng Som’ on their table so I had to try it even tho I was warned that it was spicy! Indeed it was spicy but I had to take a second mouthful because it was soooo good! I think I had sausage lips after that, lol. If you find it a little to spicy do wash it down with a cold sea coconut dessert [ or bring your own milk..lol] So, if you visit don’t forget to buy a pack or two back and you can enjoy it in your own home!
