This week's at home training sessions are all about band based training. Today, Head TMT Fitness Coach Shaun Kober focused on a power based session.
5 categories, full body, power focused.
6 sets of 6 @ max effort rate of force production.
1 to 1 work rest ratio. If it takes 15 seconds to complete the reps, I rest 15 seconds before my next set.
2 minutes rest between exercises.
A. Banded broad jumps
B. Banded power pull
C. Banded single leg lateral jump
D. Banded power press
E. Banded power reverse woodchoop

If you have access, I recommend buying a suspension trainer, (either a set of gymnastics rings, or a TRX or similar) a set of bands, a skipping rope, a set of furniture sliders, a kettlebell, (or small set if budget allows) and a lacrosse ball or foam roller.

A nice article by Gabriel Mvumvure, a sprints and hurdles coach at Brown University. It shows workouts athletes can perform at home using minimal or no equipment. Despite the season being cut short by the coronavirus, his sprinters collectively broke 32 personal bests, had 12 performances ranked in the top 10 in school history, and broke two school records, including the women's 4x400m relay. That relay record stood for 29 years! I worked with Gabriel on a previous article on stability training for sprinters for this publication. As simple as they may be, gymnastic rings are (in my view) the most versatile, convenient, and effective piece of equipment for strength training, and they should be an essential part of every strength athlete’s inventory. ?
If you’ve ever tried to support your weight or perform movements on a pair of gymnastic rings, you know that it’s no walk in the park. Unlike a bar, which is fixed in place, gymnastic rings are suspended in space, free to swing and move around. This forces you to stabilize your body when performing movements and engage multiple muscles that must work together. The result is an extremely taxing, functional, and effective strength and stability-building workout for your entire upper body and core.

This is a full 20 Minute Beginner Swiss Ball Exercises that will strengthen all the major muscle groups and tone your body without any additional equipment.
• Length: 20 minutes
• Rounds: 2 rounds; 9 exercises; 45 secs workout, 10 secs rest intervals
• Equipment: Swiss Ball, Mat (optional, for cushioning)
• Type of Workout: Strength training (toning) & flexibility
• Muscles Worked: Lower body (quads, calves, hamstrings, inner & outer thighs, glutes), Core (abs, obliques, lower back) and Upper body (chest, shoulders, arms)
• Fitness Level: Beginner & Intermediate
• Impact: Low-impact
• Exercises:
1) Overhead Ball Squat
2) Wall Squats
3) Push-ups
4) Back Extension
5) Leg Curls
6) Leg Raises
7) Jack Knife
8) Plank
9) Hand Off
Swiss Ball comes in 3 standard sizes.
• 55 cm (4'11" to 5'4" tall)
• 65 cm (5'4" to 5'7" tall)
• 75 cm (5'7" to 6'3" tall)
When sitting on your ball, your feet should rest flat on the floor with a 90-degree bend at the knees.
If you are feeling strong, then repeat all the exercises once more. Do this workout 3 times weekly on alternate days. For best result, combine this together with 3 sessions of cardio weekly. All the best!
